Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC
227 PM EDT Wed Aug 28 2024

.SYNOPSIS...

A backdoor cold front will enter the area tonight and meander
across the region through Friday. The front will return north as
a warm front Saturday followed by another frontal passage early
Sunday. High pressure returns for the first half of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...

Thunderstorms have begun to develop over southeastern OH and the
northern WV panhandle. Latest HREF guidance suggests these
storms will enter western MD around 21Z and track E or ESE
along the Mason Dixon line or across northern/northeast MD this
evening before exiting east of the Chesapeake Bay overnight.
There will be a threat of damaging wind gusts given very hot and
humid air mass.

As far as temps this afternoon, only IAD seems on track to tie
the record. BWI and DCA appear unlikely to set any new records.

DCA heard that and said, "ok pal, let's see"

102!  F this Sh!t.  That makes 12 100+ days this year.  The previous 4 years with this same instrument in the same location I had a total of zero 100 degree days.   2024 is the summer equivalent for heat that 2009-2010 was for snowfall…

If it makes anyone feel better…I got 68” of snow that season….somehow the temp rose to 102.6 in the last 40 minutes…and this is only the 3rd hottest day this year…

About the same here, 68.6 inches. Looks like I tied the record high for the date, 92.0 degrees. Matches 2004's 92 degree mark. Next warmest for the date was 90 from 1993 and 1990.

Not sure what temp Frederick reached, but I thought it was tolerable. Certainly hot/humid, but it’s been a little worse at times this summer.

Don’t know either, but damn did the humidity suck.

Wow this cell going through here has sideways blowing rain.

Pretty sure I got bullseyed here by a lightning core on the southern end of that main batch. Was on the phone so couldn’t take vid, but it was straight out of the cg handbook.
