Looking through the climate numbers for the day and one of the more notable readings was 97F at Traverse City.  That was the highest reading there since June 30, 2018, when it reached 98F. It was the highest reading in the month of August since August 8, 2001, when it reached 98F. Furthermore, since 1968, there have only been two days in the month of August on which it was as warm or warmer than today's reading - August 2, 1988, when it reached 98F, and the aforementioned date in 2001.

Received a severe warning during the night with a wind gust to 40 mph and 3/4's an inch of rain.  Temps today should remain steady in the upper 60's to near 70.  Another decent shot at rain tonight as well.  Seasonable temps.
After a furious couple weeks at the hummingbird feeder, I noticed the male hummers have already left and the females and babies are sticking around still feeding but much nicer about it.  They'll depart in another week or so.  I usually leave my feeder up until the 15th of Sept for the lone passerby.

I’m down in Windsor for work and if it can hit 95F that would be the hottest I’ve felt this summer

We had a few oppressive days in June where heat indexes neared 100F. The hottest temp was 95F on June 17th. Surprisingly, Detroit has logged 12 days of 90F+ this year (6 in June, 1 July, 5 August) but the other 11 were all between 90-92. Last year there was literally zero oppressive heat (only 2 days touched 90F, and just barely). We really get very few days in the mid-90s or higher anymore, something that was so common place 1930-1960.

I can see Windsor from the Detroit River here in Wyandotte! Stay cool!

record warm low of 75 yesterday.  this morning the low was 78 but storms have a good chance of knocking it below that this evening

It definitely was a shock walking out of work last night into the 86/75 degree air at 8pm with it practically dark out. That's the weird thing about heat like this at this time of year. This is pretty close to the same level of sunlight that we have in early April when we get stuff like 4/2 earlier this year and 4/13/18.

I would wager that is because dews are considerably higher than that time period. For example it's only 90 at my old house in SC at the moment but the dew is 76.

100-101 in the metro is quite possible IMO, but that's probably about the upper limit with this airmass.

Either way, dangerous heat. Always a lot of trolling on here when it gets hot. I even saw someone making light at all of the EHWs.

I think people forget that conditions like these are highly unusual for the Midwest in the month of August, let alone late August. The unofficial 113F value at 12:30 p.m. is not far off of last year's record-breaking pace. I know someone also questioned me on claiming 100F is unusual for this time of the year in Chicago, by pointing out the 100F high on August 24th of last year. That was the latest in the threaded record since the 100F reading in early September 1960, observed at Midway. It was actually 99F at O'Hare on that date, and last year's 100F reading was the latest observed at O'Hare by three full weeks. So I don't know what point they were trying to make.

If this continues, southeast OH into WV is going to be tee'd up for one hell of a wildfire season this fall.

Very interesting to watch the impact of the extreme drought on temperatures. Parkersburg, West Virginia looks poised to approach 100F today, which has only happened in 8 years from 1926 to the present (29 times), and only two years since 1954 (a total of 8 times - 7 in 1988 & 1 in 2012).

you had said if it were to hit 100° today it would be historical, which other than breaking a daily record, it would not be. as you have said, it has it 100°+ in sept before, and on multiple occasions.

take your nonsense elsewhere.

I actually said "nearly without historical precedence" as @rainsucks suggested 100-101F. Another degree above that would indeed be without any historical precedence; hence, my use of the qualifier "nearly." In other words, those values are rare but not unprecedented, but anything higher would be unprecedented in the historical record.

There was literally a historic heatwave ongoing at this exact time in 1953. It lasted 11 days. If that heatwave were to happen today EXACTLY the same, I cannot imagine this extremism of posts we would see.

Also, how is heat and humidity highly unusual in August?. Many times August is the hottest month of the summer.

Nasty, muggy day here yesterday with temps running 85-90 with low-mid 70 dews. High for today at midnight (75) then stms came through. Reopened the window in my bedroom after stms went through, and that felt good. Temps in the low 70's this aftrn. Looks like seasonable to cooler wx on tap the next few days in the point. Avg's will start decreasing a little quicker now that it's almost Sept.

Climbed to 73 here before decaying showers moved through.  Wind then turned north northeasterly and low clouds, fog have moved in with the temp of 66.  Anything is better than a heat index of 101 like yesterday.  I almost bought an AC unit.

It was a tough one. Fan going full speed to feel somewhat normal.

SBN broke their record high before 2 PM, reaching 97. The old record of 96 was set in 1948. Keeping an eye FWA, whose record is also 96. They jumped from 93 to 97 on the intrahour from 2:30 to 2:35 (EDT), then dropped to 95 at 2:40, and has been sitting there ever since.

They are in the midst of quite a dry spell also which might be helping things warm up more than usual.

Most people today lives their lives in A/C.  1988 I didn't have A/C and survived. 1988 I was in high school and my high school didn't have A/C.  They never canceled classes and everyone survived there too.  In fact I don't recall anyone even thinking twice about it.  A/C is part of the problem and has created a ton of pansies!!!
