CAPE
78/76 here. Move at all and sweat profusely. I get to escape the perpetual heat for the rest of the month. Blast off this evening from Philly, where the HI will be 105 today.

Wouldn't be surprised to see that expanded westward some. Depends exactly where the front stalls. Guidance continues to indicate some h5 vorticity moving northward in the flow around the west side of the Atlantic ridge, and that could pull the boundary westward a bit. Looks like a possible setup for training convection. 1

MN Transplant
A good delimiter for big-time heat years is whether there are 20 or more 95+ days. There have only been 12 of those in DCA history (2016 being the latest, 2012 having the record of 29). We are currently sitting at 10 with plenty more to come. If you do year-to-date, 2024 only trails: 2012 (14) 2010 (11) 1991 (13) 1911 (11) Interestingly, in 2016 the heat was backloaded, with only 1 95+ day through 7/9, on the way to 23 total. 2

It was 100-102 at start time with brilliant skies and full sun. One match finished, all others one or both players retired. They changed the start times forever after that . These are about the fittest guys in the world. I asked one I think Marcus Zooka and he said only once had he been this hot in Kawala Lampur(sp) on the equator. coolio
I grew up in Laredo, TX and this is just your basic summer. Think of a mini Houston with some dry heat days from the Chihuahua desert to give you variety! Also, worked for a company from El Paso (more dry heat). I did business trips there in the summer. Can say that was the only city where you would cross the roadway and slightly sinking into the spongy asphalt (walking).
PrinceFrederickWx
We'll continue to keep setting monthly/seasonal heat records (but not necessarily daily ones) because it can no longer cool off at night. A low around 80 is the new normal here in July.
