July 2024 General Discussion

Spiked up to 88 as the Sun briefly popped out. That was according to the five minute reports. Gonna have to wait to see what the official high is going to be. It did start getting warm on the bike when the Sun hit those small breaks.

88 was the official high at KIND today. 88/68/91 was a pleasantly warm afternoon.

Topped out at 91 before the rain came. Going to be a sucky 4th of July tomorrow with storms and cloud cover.

77 and mod rain on and off, one of the more miserable 4th of July’s in quite sometime.

Rain held off until just after the annual parade. Got 0.36" so far. A day of free swimming got cancelled because of the rain.

Temps peaked in the low 70's today with a cirrus deck hazing the Sun, along with a light lake breeze 5-10 mph. Should be just fine for the fireworks later. Looks like a good portion of MN/WI washed out this holiday with lots of rain persisting all day. :(  Areas of S MN into S WI really don't need any more water. Rainy River on the CA border under a Flood warning now after heavier rains the other day.

I am so tired of the rain. Since the flooding on the 22nd and 23rd, we have had a few more rain events, including tonight. While none have caused the amount of flooding as 6/22, everywhere has high water rn. We desperately need a break and it just keeps coming. It doesn't help it's like an inch to two inches of rain everytime. And with today's rain, a bunch of the local fireworks shows got postponed to Saturday. And the forecast continues to look wet. And depending on what happens with Beryl, we could be in for a remnants event sometime later next week. This is what 1993 must have been like, which btw we are currently ahead of rn with precip. Which is incredible, with the caveat that 1993s big flood events weren't until July on WI for the most part. The only reason this isnt fully 1993 is the leftover effects of the drought last year. Which by the way, we have surpassed not only the entirety of last summers rainfall in the last month, some areas by Baraboo and Portage have almost certainly tied or exceeded the annual amount for last year just in the last 60 days. Those areas got around 20 last year and they have had that in the last 60. And the thing is, we theoretically could keep doing this for the rest of the summer.  It just never ends.

The Wisconsin River basin has seen multiple severe flood events in the last 15-20 years; starting with 2007-'08 and again in 2018. The Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom (along the Baraboo River) got flooded in each of those. I'm concerned that that area seems to be getting bulls-eyed a lot in the recent rounds of precip, as well.

Complex of shwrs (maybe thunder) slowly moving from the NE to SW right through the area that has been hit hard with rains the last 2+ weeks. Not good. Hopefully more doesn't develop behind, and train.

Bummer, everything at airnow.gov seems to be down now. You have me curious about how bad it is here now and especially yesterday.

I've been having issues the last couple days or so with NWS enhanced radar not loading, or partially loading. If I leave the page up in a tab, and wait for a few minutes, sometimes it'll completely load.

Temps running in the mid-upper 60's at midday with a light lake breeze. Some of the showers building to my N may sneak this way.

Temps in the mid 70's in town with a large batch of shwrs/stms moving from the N. Should get a little wet around supper time.

Temps running upper 70's-low 80's with mid-upper 60's for dews. Scattered shwr/stm complexes across NE/NC MN. They are moving really slow, so lots of rain for those spots where they are parked over. Will not be surprised to see flood warnings go up for some spots in the next 24-36 hrs, as the next low moves through.
