Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boston/Norton MA
1036 AM EDT Sat Jul 13 2024

.SYNOPSIS...
Showers, and some downpours, into early afternoon. Hot on
Sunday, but slightly drier with sunny skies. Dangerous heat and
humidity is expected Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with
afternoon heat indices between 95 and 105 degrees. The greatest
risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms will be Monday and
Wednesday, but much of this time will still feature dry weather.
Relief from the heat and humidity arrives by Thursday and
Friday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Still a risk for embedded thunderstorms this morning, but losing
confidence that we will see them. Have not seen active lightning
during the past couple of hours. Latest SPC mesoanalysis showed
a similar picture. Plenty of buoyancy, but poor mid level lapse
rates. Shear was offset to the northwest, so not expecting
severe weather.

Updated rainfall chances using the latest runs of the HRRR,
which seemed to have the best handle on the existing rainfall.
Will reconsider the Flood Watch later today, as will likely be
able to drop portions prior to the existing expiration of 8 PM.
Minor tweaks to temperatures to reflect observed trends.

We should get it today. Would be a damn shame if we don’t given how much we’ve been above the min criteria.

Looks like DAW will do it today, but I still think it’s running too warm. It’s never consistently hotter than the CON-MHT-ASH corridor. 95° yesterday?

Another miserable day here. Wet and muggy.

Either shredded my calf or tore my Achilles on Thursday night playing softball. Loud pop and instant pain.

Anyone have this type of injury before? Went to urgent care and they performed a “Thompson test” and my foot still responded, so NP said unlikely Achilles. I’m still skeptical it’s not that because I can’t hear weight at al or push off.

have appointment with ortho on Tuesday.

Will be at Fenway Saturday 4pm game, first time for the kids...

Don't like the sound of a Flood Watch through 8pm, but only 12z HREF still has some lingering rain east through most of the game (and backed off from 0z HREF) vs. NAM/3kNAM/HRRR clear it out a few hours earlier

Working out nicely for game... early cloud cover will mitigate temps, and we might get a nice canopy sunset later

Never understood the flood watch outside of southern areas...  NAM/HRRR were pretty good in timing of clearing, GFS was only guidance keeping significant activity into late afternoon

Several small tendons and ligaments around the ankle.  Could be your rentinaculum.
Maybe give Kristaps Porzingis a call and see what he thinks.

The pain is squarely in the large part of my calf… not near the ankle.

just hoping it’s not Achilles.

I’m not sure you would be walking around if it was Achilles.  Partial tear of the gastro would do it but I’m not sure that wouldn’t account for the pop you felt.
Either way, sorry to hear. Good luck and go see the orthopedist.

Maybe it’s your soleus muscle? I had a tear in my Achilles (partial) from basketball almost 20 years ago but I could still bear weight (I couldn’t push off however). I had a really ugly black and blue area the next day from around the sides of the foot up the back, so if you have that tomorrow, that’s a bad sign. Good luck!

Similar event about thirty years back. I heard the pop as I was going down the subway stairs. I was able to get home and some pain set in later. By the time I got to the orthopedic trauma specialist ny leg from knee to ankle was black. I needed therapy and was able to walk with a boot and return to work almost immediately. I can’t remember the exact diagnosis but something in my calf snapped. The only thing I remember is the specialist, a couple of weeks later, marveling at the bodies ability to heal because the discoloration was completely gone. Please take care, it will heal. As always ….

Definitely good to get it checked out. Pretty sure I  partially tore my bicep back in 2018. Rolled up and killed. Never had it checked out but seems to have healed.

Thanks for the responses guys. I’m kind of dragging my leg around essentially. Calf is very tight if I try to take a normal step, not Even pain so much as tight. Cant push off, but I can stand on that leg only if that means anything.

no black and blue about 48 hours out from the injury. Have appointment with ortho on Tuesday, so we’ll see.

I did something similar and has healed a bit but still have pain. May have to look into some type of surgery at this point. I haven't golfed in a year because of it, really annoying.
