You guys seem to have a fair amount of cloud debris today. I'm a little surprised temps are still rising at a respectable clip.

But that mid-June sun angle can do wonders...

I’m on the far east side atm. Just got the real thick cloud debris coming in the past hour

Unfortunately, the de-urban cold island effect is keeping temperatures in check at DTW.

Cold island effect :lol::lol:. The high yesterday at DTW was 95F, with closeby stations maxing at 94F at YIP at 92F at ARB.

The high of 91F on 6/16/24 ended a streak of 679 days where the temp did not get hotter than 90F. This was the 11th longest on record and 5th longest in the last 100 years.

They really need to switch to wet bulb globe temperature, or some other measure of heat. Weird look when you have one of the hottest June days on record, and not even an advisory. LOT used to be much more diligent about getting the warnings out for the urban heat island.

that’s what happens when dew points mix out and heat indices are only marginally elevated.

nothing that has occurred so far has been worthy of a heat headline.

Just wow, this used to be just called summer.  Now it's headline news :lmao:

Yeah it’s uncomfortably warm outside but the hype about the “heat” this week was something else. I suppose if we would have had full sun the last couple of days then it would have been a bigger deal but even then the 850 temps around 20C are warm but nothing that doesn’t happen on occasion here in the Summer.
The Gaylord office didn’t even issue any headlines and the eastern part of their area had highs in the 90s yesterday and today.

I figured I'd avoid comment here and let the pro handle it. Regards.

it hasn't been headline worthy there...or anywhere around these parts for that matter.

HI's have not even cracked 100.

IKK's highest temp and HI happened to be yesterday, at 95/98.

Lol

as for Toledo, there were multiple days of 90's last year (probably less than average) and the top for the year was 93, on only one day.

Yeah the wind has definitely kept things on the not too terrible side. Honestly yeah this heatwave turned to be kind of a nothing burger around here. Warm days and nights, but nothing out of the ordinary, and definitely not what was modeled earlier this weekend. Oh well.

Toledo had 99 yesterday (broke a record), 93 today.  It was 100 and 96 intra-hour high temps at Toledo's KTDZ. This airport seemingly has been running just a bit higher than TOL for a while. And it's always possible this isn't an equipment bias.

Topped out at 87° yesterday in Howell.

That's a huge temp gap given the distance isn't that far.

Clouds did in places to the north and west. We got to 86 and stayed there most of the day except for a half hour where the skies cleared and we shot up to 90.

Northwest Ohio and adjacent areas of Indiana always do well with the heat. I think it's the low elevation - almost like a depression extending from Maumee Bay out to Fort Wayne - and the sandy soils.

5 minute observations show a couple of 99F readings, so likely reached at least 98F (factoring in rounding). These values are rounded in Celsius to the nearest whole degree before conversion, whereas the official readings are rounded from the nearest tenth of a degree in Celsius.

Toledo Executive Airport (KTDZ) did reach triple digits. 100F at 2:50 PM. An observation of 100F on the 5-minute observations is a true observation of 100F since it means the rounded Celsius temperature was 38C, which consequently means it was at least 37.5C (99.5F = 100F).

Toledo - Toledo Executive Airport (weather.gov)

You are correct sir. This area was known as the Great Black Swamp in Ohio's early history and was eventually drained using ditches that emptied into the Maumee, Portage and Sandusky rivers. Fascinating history of Indian disputes, wars (War of 1812) and pioneers traversing a harsh terrain to create where we live today.

It makes sense though given how rural the area around KTDZ is. The farm fields are absolutely cooking at the moment

Another cloud induced bust for me.

I was really hoping to hit an all time high temp mark on the PWS. That 93.9 is looking safe so far.

You mean that poorly sited PWS that's surrounded by trees

You must be in Dayton. I hear they never get above 89.

Notice that he hasn't said anything where they have been above 3 day in a row and will be 6 of the next 7.
