It feels kind of awesome outside rn.  Today was nothing more than "summer".  Friday thru Sunday do look spicy, though.  Hopefully, we can reel in a line of storms on the tail end of the heat wave.

Beautiful country , spent the night in Newcastle after leaving Mt Rushmore on our 5495 mile circle drive around the country 3 years ago in April.... Wanted to visit Cheyenne but didn't make it - went nw through Montana instead...
Then you came right through my area, just south of the Montana border near I-90.

(Sorry, back to obs)

If my data is correct, and I believe it is , upper level soil temp has already eclipsed all of 2023's summer months highs. Incredible !!!!

I believe it - just got home after being gone for 120 hours and the brown-out of the lawn is quite noticeable in my sunnier spots. It's dry and crispy out there.

It was fine, my high was 86.   5 degrees above normal but certainly nothing unusual for June 19.

as with the past few summers here - it's not the actual temps on a given day that are unusual, it's the persistence of the above-normal temps (particularly at night).

The more impressive anomalies will be well north of us.  Despite some of the awful Euro runs, this was always just a normal summer heat wave for us.  Could grab a record high at IAD if things break right.

Where will it be hottest in decades?

Not here as winds never get a solid westerly component with No high in TN valley and south flow dominant from  Bermuda high

Saw  99 late week yesterday, now 96 max.  Sensing heat hype.

On cue:

Well, I wanted rain. I wanted to deliver tonight but the moderate rain keeps falling. I can not even get the TRASH out, it is raining so much lmao. Need to take my own advice: Be careful what I wish for lol. After all my bellyaching last night about the storm fizzled out - this post needs about a million lmao's.

That 99 reading in far SE coastal Maine, though. I don’t think they see those kind of temps often if ever.

That's ridiculous. It's supposed to be that hot in Austin, but today it was 71 there with tropical rain and a northerly wind.
