We recently bought a rowhome in Bloomingdale NW as a city getaway.  We get our keys this week and this weekend will be our first weekend up in the city.  Is it a ton more oppressive downtown compared to out by the bay?   My wife has visions of walking around the mall outside but I'm thinking that's better for September, or maybe at 4am before the sun comes out...

The heat in the UHI is legit. You will not find it to be cool on most july-august mornings, special once the sun is up. 10 degrees warmer than the hinterland counties by 8am easily

Doesn’t seem as bad here this week than originally thought. Low 90s in the forecast.
Then mid/upper 90s next weekend before it moderates.

Better than models showed last week.

seems the bigger issue might be the longevity and the lack of rain.

Gotta pull a George Washington and head out to the mountains!

Yesterday was great out here. 80 degrees, slight breeze to temper the suns heat. Crowds werent even that bad, maybe the covid craziness is fading.

It was really the Euro, which is completely broken at this point for long-range temps.

I said the same thing about COVID. We do a lovely hike in Prince William NP with some rapids and small waterfalls. It’s a perfect “local” hike when I don’t want to head to Shenandoah, West Virginia or the beach.

Yesterday there were a few trail runners, but very few hikers. I looked at my wife and I said three years ago and this place would’ve been packed.

Despite the looming pinwheel heat dome of death’s arrival, it’s actually an extremely nice morning out right now!

Nice breeze on the early AM walk with the dog.

Funny. I’m doing the same thing. I have my hose at 25 percent and I’m moving it between my bushes and flowers between meetings.

Where will it be hottest in decades?

Not here as winds never get a solid westerly component with No high in TN valley and south flow dominant from  Bermuda high

Saw  99 late week yesterday, now 96 max.  Sensing heat hype.

87.3 today which is the warmest so far this year and warmer than any day in 2023 (tops last year was 85.9). DP is 69.4 which is also a high for the year (by far). DP didn't rise above 70 here last year except for 2 days in late July IMBY. Feels like a legit summer day; looking forward to being outside after work.

The more impressive anomalies will be well north of us.  Despite some of the awful Euro runs, this was always just a normal summer heat wave for us.  Could grab a record high at IAD if things break right.

Tstorm earlier this afternoon  looked pretty good on radar passing through Waynesboro - Managed to pick up some very light rain with no accumulation on my dry side of town... Second time in 5 days - based on looking at radar , would have guessed a third to a half of a inch total - nope 0.04
