If you want to downplay a heat wave because that’s your thing then have at it. But if you want to be taken seriously then don’t be misleading. Why not mention Canada setting records? lee59
My last four day highs have been 81, 83, 85 and 88. At that rate it would look like tomorrow would be my first 90 but the forecast says no. We shall see.

Just going off memory, we just had a period of smaller positive SOI results but otherwise it seems for weeks the SOI has been a bit more negative than positive and once again past few days we are negative again. Does this indicate a problem with the current La Nina taking off as much as it was expected or more an immaterial statistical anomaly in this short period ? I would normally think we want that index positive in anticipation of an incoming moderate or greater La Niña. I think the process will become steadier during the second half of summer. A strong La Niña is looking less likely than it did a few months ago. I suspect a moderate one is probably the most likely outcome right now.

Yeah, it looks like the warm spots today are in the 98° to 100° range today with the highest temperatures possible on Sunday. Still looking like a very strong Ambrose Jet event on Sunday with 30 to 40 mph gusts at the South Shore beaches.

SACRUS
81 / 67 and sunny SW flow. Off to the proverbial races temp-wise mid - upper 90s, recent dryness enhancing heating. Storms fire north each of the next two nights and we'll see if any get or make their way down to North Jersey. Heat is on through Sunday and only scattered showers storms, clouds or debris clouds from northern storms would limit the heat. Trough pushes first meaningful front through on Mon but still remaining hot and with enough sun another day of the heatwave. Tue dries out and bit cooler but warm spots should touch 90. A quick surge of hotter by Wed (6/26) before the next trough moves in with cooler period for 2 days. Ridgiing and warmth building back to close the month on the 30th and setting up the next hot period / heatwave. 6/17 -6/26 : Hot 6/27 - 6/29: brief cooldown 6/30 - beyond : hotter/ humid 2
