I looked into the question of long runs of above average months.

Based on runs of top one-third of all data (bold in table), closer to median Nov 2023 disqualified recent interval of Sep 2023 to present, and on basis of top third, longest runs showing the gradual increasing duration were:

 3 (Dec 1889 to Feb 1890, Jan-Mar 1898)

 4 (Aug-Nov 1900, May-Aug 1908, Oct 1912-Jan 1913)

 6 (Sep 1931 - Feb 1932) 

 8 (May - Dec 1953, June 1973 - Jan 1974)

11 (Oct 1990 to Aug 1991)

since then, longest run was seven months, on two occasions, Oct 2001- Apr 2002 and Mar-Sep 2010.

The current interruption (or disqualification) by Nov 2023 is similar to 1949 losing a run of eight (Jan - Aug) to a near miss by May 1949, or ten if you also count Dec 1948. Also April 2015 to Nov 2016 was broken up by three relatively average months. Against some normal values it could be a 20-month period of warmth.
