usedtobe
damn the person/people whoever came up with these "quick look at" type things to determine rain/snow lines around here. gotta look at the whole column. 1000-500mb thicknesses...partial thicknesses...850 temps. toss em all. Yep, I've never like thickness. When possible look at the sounding but this time of year, always check the boundary layer as it often is an issue. Wonderdog
12z GFS shows the low now off VA Capes at hour 216. Still a long way off but the model apparently thinks a storm will develop and usher in cold air. Question for MA as always, is where?

marked8
I just glanced at the long range and no cold air now up until Dec 2nd. It seems as if the cold air keeps getting pushed back and sadly, this reminds me of the last Nina.

Eastern U.S. will certainly be cold for a period just after Thanksgiving... Lows in the 20s.
Sparky
What winter was that when the cold was always depicted 10 days away? 2001/2002?
Riptide
What winter was that when the cold was always depicted 10 days away? 2001/2002? I'm more confident it's coming now based on the 0z euro. Off-hour runs seem to be running warmer anyways.
Analog96
What winter was that when the cold was always depicted 10 days away? 2001/2002? Yes, but the difference here is that the cold has always been slated to arrive somewhere around Thanksgiving, give or take a day, and still is. Analog96
Even if he does, I'd still like to know both of those. The way I've been getting surface data leaves much to be desired. Google GFS SAMPLED POINTS for starters.
