Now this is a US open. Margin for error is very small. Bryson played lights out today but all it takes is one missed shot into trouble or a bad break as the course keeps baking and it’s anyone’s jug tomorrow.

Easy to get in trouble, the 13th hole is a bear.

I'm surprised if you read all the media stuff they make it seem like he's got it all wrapped up. No way...

Yea Bryson made a sick 60yd bunker shot on 18 to win it but Rory gave the trophy away. That’s gotta sting more than all of his other close losses and as the drought gets longer…the doubts grow deeper.

Great US Open though. Loved the test.

Listened to some during our drive but then spent the afternoon walking around Niagara Falls and was pumped to the move Rory made and deflated to hear Bryson sink the winning par putt. Wish I could have watched it. I bet this is the major I watch the least of though. If the weather is nice this time of year I feel guilty sitting on the couch watching tv.

Yea. I was watching while playing a round myself….attached the phone to the cart.

Holy crap. Nelly Korda shoots an 81 to miss the cut at the Women’s PGA Championship. 3 missed cuts in a row and her highest score as a professional.

Even the greatest players can struggle and lose a tick of something, whether swing related or mental, and suddenly look like just another player. Crazy game.

The crazy thing is that she was something like 1 shot off the lead after toe first round.

After 11.5 trusty years of using a Titleist 913 driver and 3 wood I caved and upgraded. Received new Titleist TSR3 driver (8*), 3 wood (13.5*) and 5 wood (18*).

Hit a bucket after work today and man the technology is impressive. I found it extremely difficult to really mishit them. Even mishits still flew pretty good.

Based on one driving range session: club: new (old)

Driver: 280 carry (270)

3 wood: 245 carry (230)

5 wood: 225

Yeah, I just went from some 15+ year old Mizuno irons to new Callaway Rogue STs.  It’s taken me a bit to get used to them but I’m carrying my 6 iron 160 when I hit it right. I also realized I’d made some adjustments with my grip and ball position over the years that I don’t need with new game improvement technology for us mid to high handicappers.

My irons and wedges are also 12 yrs old. A few years ago I hit a new iron in a simulator and its RPMs were half of my old steel.

Just did 18 holes at Shaker Hills ( overrated course ) ... It cleared to open sun at hole 9 and the rest of the way was an incredible sauna.   It felt like the DP had to have been higher than 75 out there, and probably was with irrigation and water hazards dappled around the course works.   Man, the air was tinting blue against distant tree lines and there was no wind.  We found ourselves hunkering in the shade while other people hit.

Dashboard therm was 88 back in the parking lot but ... 88 over 77 makes the T sort of irrelevant because there's nothing about that that is "88" - -no way.

91 back down town.  We got anvil debris and towers leaning now

Now there’s a course with an inflated price

You know what. I enjoyed my round there. Great variety of holes. Made me hit a bunch of different clubs. Played the tips and shot 79.

Side note: I bought a new driver, 3 wood and 5 wood. According to the cart, I hit a 290 yd 3-wood today off a tee (downwind). That’s nuts for me.

Let me edit: technology is something…

my titleist 913 15* 3wood went 235.

my new TSR3 13.5 3wood goes ~260 and downwind today it went 290 on a hole.

You seem to be a pretty good golfer, maybe we can hook up some time with Ken and Iceberg

Hovering around a 4 handicap at the moment. I typically get out weekend mornings before 7am. If y’all are up for that early it’s when the wife and toddler let me.

That's the time when we usually golf, before the heat and crowds hit, only thing is we have to travel to a mid point somewhere.

Funny you say that…. We are very limited on public courses here, so busy starts at daybreak.

If anyone here is interested, I’m doing one more AmericanWx pool this year, the British Open pool. If so go to the PGA Tour thread and make your picks there. This time I’m asking for 7 picks (instead of 6 picks) in addition to you picking the final score to par of the tourney winner. Make sure that your 7 picks aren’t identical to anyone who picks earlier. All scoring rules will be the same as what was used for the US Open. Deadline is 11:59PM EDT Wed 7/17.
