If we can get through this summer without a 100 degree day, Central Park will set the record for most consecutive days without a maximum temperature of at least 100 degrees. Right now we are 318 days from setting the record and are at 4291 days as of yesterday without a 100 degree day.

They already have the record for not getting above 98° due to how thick the tree growth has become over the sensor.

Temperatures will rebound into the upper 50s tomorrow under partly to mostly cloudy conditions. Saturday will see temperatures briefly return to near seasonable levels. However, another cold front will likely cross the region on Saturday with a return to cooler conditions.

Overall, generally cooler than normal conditions will likely persist into at least the middle of next week.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was -0.2°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +0.9°C for the week centered around April 10. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +0.10°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +1.15°C. The ongoing basinwide El Niño event is fading. Neutral conditions could develop later in the spring.

The SOI was -5.77 today.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was not available today.

On April 14 the MJO was in Phase 4 at an amplitude of 0.520 (RMM). The April 13-adjusted amplitude was 0.553 (RMM).

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied 70% probability that New York City will have a warmer than normal April (1991-2020 normal). April will likely finish with a mean temperature near 54.9° (1.2° above normal).

This Nina regime favors them for snow anyway. Just drive an hour or so up to the mountains when the rampaging Pacific jet storms come in.

Officially Philadelphia, Wilmington, Trenton, Allentown & Reading have not recorded 100 degrees since 2012, same as Central Park. A # of locations listed above are known warm bias sites, take for instance the Franklin Institute. Pic of that rooftop instrument shelter is attached. Any wonder why that location would run warm LOL. Newark is a joke and has been addressed on multiple occasions by the NJ State Climatologist. NE Philly & SJ Regional have been running out of tolerance warm for years.

You clearly lack consistency & need to treat the warm bias rooftops, helicopter pads, an ASOS next to miles of runway asphalt & 12 lanes of traffic.....garbage sites with the same degree of scrutiny as you do with the supposed vegetation issues at Central Park.

Personally I hate this weather but why does it bother some of you that others like it? Not everybody is a warm weather fanatic even in Spring.

I really think that deep down, no one actually enjoys this 40 something degrees and damp weather for days on end.  I mean could understand the flip side, not liking 90 degree heat with humidity in summer, but it just seems some like to "troll" that we aren't seeing much nice weather.

I don't think so. You really think Anthony is trolling? I genuinely believes he likes this weather, same with Hoodie Guy. He gets weenied and made fun of every time he says he likes this weather and it always baffled me. To each their own is what I say but that's just me, it's all in good fun I suppose.

I LOVE this type of weather. Mist, upper 40s and fog...there's something about it that I love but everyday.... absolutely not haha

It's the same thing with cold wx...there's not one person on earth who could genuinely say.. "I love this 0 degree weather"

As one poster said , it's all subjective.

I like the very cold weather only in terms of the snow it usually means. We don’t normally get cold anymore without a snowstorm involved. But both are very rare now. But yep-useless/wasted cold is also the worst. We’re not near the Great Lakes where that means LES bands.

You continue to mix apples and oranges in your comparisons. First, NYC is the only site in the region that is situated under shade trees and every other site gets direct sunlight. It’s well known that you don’t take temperatures under trees. Second, that Franklin institute rooftop site can run cooler than the street level sites as has been the case with the NYC micronet rooftop sites. Third, PHI runs cool since it’s situated in a swamp on the Delaware River at one of the widest points. Your argument about Newark holds no water since it’s actually been shown to run cooler than surrounding sites on days where it’s subject to sea breezes since it’s in a swampy area near the bay. Plus none of the sites other than NYC shows a summer high temperature cooling pattern while the minimums have been rising. So blocking solar radiation to any site with trees is going to taint your observations. Numerous sites have hit 100° around the region since 2012. The area approaching NE NJ is naturally warmer even if there was no urbanization due to a downsloping effect on a SW to W flow. While the temperature measurements from the 1930s were less reliable, the NJ state record was set in Runyon during the 1930s and is located in this  warmer corridor. So no urbanization was needed. It’s naturally a warmer part of the region than areas further to the SW due to typography alone.

Cloudy this Saturday with drizzle as the front clear through. Nice Sunday - partly cloudy and 60s. Cooler week 4/22 - Fri 4/26, with just light rain.   Chilly Wed - Fri.   Next 70s and warmer with the warmup by next weekend 4/27 to close the month.  Watch for cut off / onshore into next month.  No sustained warmth beyond 3 days yet on the longer out there forecasts.

Historical:

1775 - The first engagement of the Revolutionary War took place under clear crisp weather at Lexington-Concord. (Sandra and TI Richard Sanders - 1987)

1927: A deadly tornado outbreak occurred across the central part of Illinois, killing 21 people. The first tornado touched down near Hardin, traveling northeast through Carrollton, then skimmed the south side of Springfield. At Carrollton, a teacher was killed as she held the door of the school shut, saving the lives of her students. The second tornado, peaking at estimated F4 intensity, touched down on the southeast side of Springfield, then moved to affect the towns of Riverton, Buffalo Hart, Chestnut, and Cornland. In Buffalo Hart, only three houses were left standing, while the northern half of Cornland was leveled. The tornado track was 65 miles, ending in Ford County.

1941 - The temperature at Sodus, NY, soared to 95 degrees. The next day Albany, NY, reported a record for April of 93 degrees. (The Weather Channel)

1973 - Glenrock, WY, received 41 inches of snow in just 24 hours, and a storm total of 58 inches, to establish two state records. (18th-20th) (David Ludlum) (The Weather Channel)

1976 - The northeastern U.S. was in the midst of an early season heat wave, and the Boston Marathon took place in 90 degree heat. At Providence RI the mercury hit 98 degrees. (David Ludlum)

1986: A major storm system produced ten tornadoes in Texas. One of these tornadoes virtually annihilated the town of Sweetwater. The tornado struck at the unlikely time of 7:17 am. One person was killed, and 100 were injured.

1987 - Forty cities in the central U.S. reported new record high temperatures for the date as readings soared into the 80s and lower 90s for Easter Sunday. Fort Smith AR reported a record high of 95 degrees. (The National Weather Summary)

1988 - Severe thunderstorms over the southeastern U.S. early in the day spawned a strong (F-3) tornado which destroyed seventeen homes and severely damaged thirty houses near Madison FL killing four persons and injuring eighteen others. (Storm Data) (The National Weather Summary)

1989 - A dozen cities in the southwestern U.S. reported new record high temperatures for the date. The afternoon high of 98 degrees at Hanksville UT equalled their record for April. Tucson AZ reported their earliest 100 degree reading of record. (The National Weather Summary)

1990 - Five cities in the northeastern U.S. reported record low temperatures for the date as readings dipped into the 20s and upper teens. Elkins WV reported a record low of 20 degrees. Thunderstorms over the Southern Plains produced golf ball size hail at San Angelo TX, and up to four inches of rain in southwestern Oklahoma. (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data)

1996 - One of the most memorable tornado outbreaks in Illinois history occurred on April 19, 1996. During the day, 33 tornadoes were reported as supercells erupted and moved across the state during the afternoon and evening hours. Wind estimates in excess of 170 mph were associated with some of the stronger tornadoes, one of which ripped through nearby Ogden, IL. (University of Illinois WW2010)

2006: An intense spring snowstorm swept across the Dakotas, dumping up to 5 feet of snow. The heaviest snow fell in the Black Hills, with 59.4 inches at Lead, SD. Bowman, ND reported 18 inches. The storm closed highways including I-94 in North Dakota, cutting power to thousands and was responsible for at least four deaths. Further west, 1 to 3 feet of snow and 50 to 60 mph winds caused drifts up to 10 feet, widespread power outages, and livestock losses.

I don't know.  I know in winter I love cloudy days with snow showers with the sun setting at 4:30.  If I can like that, I can see people liking cool damp days in Spring.

Could deal without the mist. And also those of us that have kids really need to appreciate the nice days we can actually take them out to do activities.

This weather really limits that and cabin fever especially for 2 year Olds is a real thing.
