DAWGNKITTEN
New GSP AFD So let me ask you this, if you can answer...will this affect NE GA or just the Piedmont and NC? Just wondering if the snow is setting up to dissapate or whether it will increase in intensity as the low pivots and slows down? TIA for the time you take to answer! Buddy
FWIW, there is a secondary band of precip developing over eastern TN. Remains to be seen how this affects those outside of the upslope areas, but there is a potential for more snow after the intial cutoff tonight:

socar2001
when the phasing is taking place (if it does, and if it hasnt already), can someone with more knowledge than me post satellite, radar, water vapor or whatever you can to illustrate to us weanies what it looks like and involves? thanks! Carvers Gap
Radars in TN are filling in nicely. Is that the phase we have been talking about - the energy diving in from the NW diving into the SLP from the GOM? Is that energy forecast to cut-off west of the mountains? Seems like Foothills mentioned this as a possibility...but I don't want to put words in his mouth.

CaryWx
Looking at the radar, is that the ULL around central/southern Tenn with a precip shield out front, while our surface low is off the Fla panhandle?

DaculaWeather
If you look here (quickly) http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/ruc/hr1/index_500_s_loop.shtml you'll see in the first frame where the low was, watch the shot dropping down and wrapping around. burrel2
Remind me to never waste my time looking at the RUC sim Radar again. It consistently developed a heavy band of precip through the upstate and right now, not only is there not a decent band, but it appears that the precip is slowly waning away. I could have told you that. Upstream radar is anemic and the back edge is approaching quickly. So when is this coastal low supposed to send precip our way? Did the storm even phase or was the southern stream just strong enough to enhance things for a little while?

The low is just getting into florida, it isnt even off the coast yet, and as daculaweather pointed out, the northern stream looks to be wrapping around the coastal low as we speak. You must be a long lost brother of mine. A lot of your points I feel, just don't post them. I'm stressing out over boundary layer temps pretty bad right now in CAE. Supposedly we are supposed to get our stuff when this thing really starts developing after it crosses Florida. I've never had such a stressful Christmas! I've never had such a stressful Christmas! Calm down man. You will get your snow, after midnight the low will start to bomb off the GA/SC coast and we wont have any problem getting precip, the cold air will come in quick once the precip starts. Cold Rain
Finally have a heavy drizzle here in SE Wake Co. Looks like I'll be under that heavier band for a while, so we'll see if it does the trick and cools us off enough to allow some flakes to mix in. It's not going to bomb out. I think we missed the phase. That pieceof energy in the Nashville area is kicking the low out instead of phasing with it. DopplerWx
On an even brighter side, the HPC is analyzing the low along the Gulf at 1005 mb. The 23z RUC? 1012mb. So it has no idea how strong it is at initialization. Just posted in the obs thread. People, calm the heck down. This thing will go crazy once it gets off the coast, temps will crash, and snow will begin to fall. Go take a nap or somrhing and wake up at midnight. GreensboroWx
Thanks for the dose of reality for some of the people. I think this whole storm is going to over perform when all is said and done. I know being patient is tough, but just hang on a bit long and it will come. BTW, I'm sitting here about 9mi NW of GSO with about 3.5" and no let up in sight!! Not going to phase? The streams have already.
