WidreMann
They also said that convection in the Gulf could race eastward and pull the Low east. I was noticing that convection as well. I know better than expect it to actually snow for more than 30 minutes at a time here.
FoothillsNC
We never had all rain in Spartanburg it was a mix and even that didn't last very long before the snow started. Snow is sticking to the grassy areas now. Hoping we can get some moderate snow here in a bit. This area the mountains play havoc with pockets of warm air that gets trapped and can't scour good. Plus I never had good precip, but the last 2 hours it has been raining light to moderate. I just now started mixing with large flakes, so its about to switch. I would probably have had 1" of snow by now if it were snow. Going to check out the trends on RUC and radar.

Not that deep of convection. Coldest cloud tops are north and west of this convection.

oconeexman
I personally don't like the looks of the radar for here and Ne Ga. Looks like we'll be cut off after while like NW Ga is now. The whole system seems to be scooting east pretty quick.

WidreMann
Its always something around here, oh well, they did say it wasn't likely. Doesn't matter how likely it is. If it could possibly cut down on snow, then it will happen. Think of it as the Murphy's Law of central NC snowstorms.
DaculaWeather
Yep, going too far east and taking everything with it. We might have snow here for a couple more hours and then flurries. The timing with the cold air (at least for us in the Atlanta area) hasn't been there. We currently have moderate snow falling and we might still get two inches, but unless this thing really blows up, it's not looking that great. Base radar shows nothing over Wake yet, thats why. Everything is virga right now until the heavier precip moves in from the south.
WidreMann
Well that will never happen, he should halve NC. At least the central and eastern portions. With HKY already at 4", I wouldn't be surprised for them to pull 8-12" out of this. Anywhere east of GSO, though, will be lucky to get more than 2" or 3". WidreMann
RUC trends worse with each run. Precip shield is smaller and the best left keeps trending east.
Brick Tamland
It is my understanding that the snow out to our west is not what we were supposed to get here anyway. Low is supposed to come up from the south and ride the coast, and that will bring our snow.

I dont know why I bother.. but looking at 700 mb omega isnt going to help you here. 500 mb PVA is insane on the RUC and that is the height at which is in the dendritic growth zone. WidreMann
And what about how the precip shield is breaking apart in southern GA? The convection is clearly beginning to rob us of our moisture feed.

An example of how we still don't get much snow? I don't know why there is all that precip in the foothills and mountains. Certainly not b/c of the track of the low. DAWGNKITTEN
I have a question...I think it was already mentioned, but never answered. I see on the radar that it looks like precip will be ending over GA from west to east and it will be coming to an end in NE GA soon....will we get more snow once the low makes the turn and goes up the coast, or is the low going more east and the snow will end abruptly here? TIA and I want to say thank you for all the info ya'll have put out.
