Christmas Storm VII

Cold Rain

Recommended Posts

Nope. It stayed off to my north. :( Hopefully I will once this batch from NE Georgia comes through. :)

Werid since I was a little bit off to the southeast of Greenville... in any event, it seems like the main event is almost upon us.

Everyone should ease their pain by looking at the water vapor. I am seeing the signs of a nice leaf like structure.. All good signs!

Agreed... the fact the ruc continues to look more and more impressive are all good signs. I wasn't expecting things to really start off until 3-4pm in the Greenville, SC area... so we are on track!

Honestly I think the cliff diving and panic that even I have felt is because we have been following this for soo long we are just impatient.

Yea I know this has been such a closely watched storm...really pretty amazing to think about. My negative is just that I want to cash in with higher totals. Just mentioned in another thread how silly I feel getting worried I might be stuck with only 3-5...now that's :weenie: talk

its after 2pm, and nothing yet. I had a few drops/flakes a couple hours ago ,but I was expecting it to start by now. Yes, getting impatient. The donut hole is almost complete now.:arrowhead: Its rough living in this shadow zone, both Summer and Winter.

Hard to believe I live in Statesville and have around 3 inches and you are maybe 30 or so miles away and have NOTHING.thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

We must be talking about two different ones then. I live just west of Greenville in the Powdersville/Easley area and there was a band that went no more than a few miles north of me.

On a serious note, it's not so much radar panic as it is............"wonder if i can get me and my wife and two kids home in two separate cars" panic............................

I would say unless something happens dramatically, the lion's share of the precipitation is out of Kingsport, TN in less than 2 hrs. South facing banks are pretty bare dure to the sun. Shady areas may have an inch. I would say my eyes say it is done, the RUC says not so fast. The RUC appears slightly too far to the NW w/ its precipitation bands in TN. Maybe we'll get some upslope tomorrow night. On the other hand, NC is sitting pretty!

I might as well be high and dry -- just kind of spitting snow and rain -- would take me a week to get an inch at this rate, even if it were cold enougn. Good news is temp is down to 33.6.

Looks like a nice batch moving up more from the SW -- surely that can't evaporate too?!?!?! :arrowhead:

that happens a lot. I'm still very upbeat though. For those in panic mode about the radar over western Carolinas and ne GA region, this still is advertised now on RUC , much like the NAM had it yesterday where we're probably the last ones to lose our snow. The pinwheel of 700mb RH will rotate in this region through atleast 7 am tomorrow, so when you think the radar shows it comng to an end, it will just continue on and on. Happens a lot with coastals that develop in the northern Gulf and exit GA coast. The precip back east will go up the coast, but cyclonic spin usually remains in the lee of the Apps for a while longer as a weak cutoff at 7h meanders and fills. So we should get the double-whammy, first good heavy snow rates overnight, and then dwindling lighter snows through early morning. Could rack up some decent totals.

So do you still think the Triangle has a chance to see at least 2"? I'm seriously having doubts now about even that.

LOL, yes I do. Be patient dude, remember most model runs didnt show us getting accumulating snow before 7pm anyway. Are we going to have a Jan 2000 repeat, very doubtful, but this should be a good snow event. It should crank overnight. I plan to stay up.

Awesome! Allan, where did you go to see the aircraft observation you mentioned earlier? That sounds like a good tool to use.

Unfortunately it is proprietary data. I see it because I work for the company that produces the sensors! The NWS does have some limited access, the data that they have chosen to pay for. It is a nice tool to have for winter events.
