We REALLY need March to be wet.  There has been jack squat for precip since the big mid January snow and melt.

Yeah if we don't have a wet March then we are going to be in big trouble across most of the Upper Midwest. We really didn't recover from the drought all that much even in the wetter areas last fall. Combine that with the no frost and snowpack and we are already about 2-3 weeks ahead arguably from an evapotranspirational standpoint. I have some serious concerns especially for MN and the Northwoods where they didn't even get the snow in January.

18z hinting at some of these symptoms slowing down over the Midwest. At least some chances at wet weather and maybe some marginal wintry muck.

.

I've come to learn that the OP GFS is just a god-awful model. I wouldn't really take whatever it's showing in the medium-long range seriously. Although to be fair, the other deterministic models are quite putrid too.

Mid to upper 60s today, and another run at 80 tomorrow.  It's as dry as a desert so the sky's the limit wrt temp potential.

Have to wonder if we will see a repeat of these apparent temperatures this coming summer in the Midwest.

19 hours of 110+ heat indices last summer in Des Moines, beating the previous record of 13 hours from 1995, 2010, and 2011. The hottest summer on record in Des Moines (1936) had just two hours.

Not quite as impressive with 105F+ heat index hours, but still tied with 1936 & 2012. And behind only 1980, 1983, 1988 and 2011.

Record high of 55 yesterday and a record low min overnight of 33. The days are growing longer, snow is melting, and the lakes are thawing.  Spring is coming early.  Yesterday was my last day on the ice this year.  Getting a little too soupy for my comfort.  Usually can safely be on the ice until the last of April.

Beautiful sunset, Lake Bancroft in Ishpeming.

Winds kicked up last night, and still running up to 30 mph off the Lake. Temps stable in the upper 30's. Forecast highs for today a little overdone. Usually it's the opposite. Need precip badly. Avg is 2.2" for Jan-Feb, but only have 0.79" so far this year.

The temp is up to 78º here, with low 80s across southeast Iowa.  While still low, the 47º dewpoint is 15º higher than it was last week when we reached the 70s, so it feels more springy.

We REALLY need to start getting some rain.  It is very dry here.

Yeah, hope tomorrow produces.

Forecast high of 65 today. The record is 54. Smashing temperature records by 10+ degrees is becoming old news this cold season.

Earliest 70 on record at MSP is March 5th 2000. Good chance we break that record tomorrow.

Looks like another new record. Was 71 at the top of last hour at MSP.
