3.9” after 6 hours with first snowboard wipe. 0.2” last hour, 3 hours straight at that rate. Snow is quite light right now, but radar suggests that changes soon.

HoCo goods inbound shortly! If models were correct, the second half of this storm should be solid for HoCo and points ENE

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC
1007 AM EST Fri Jan 19 2024

.SYNOPSIS...
A low pressure system will move by to the south today and bring
snowfall to the region today and tonight. Arctic high pressure
will build in the wake of the low this weekend. This high
pressure will then settle south of the area early next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Snow continues across the region as the area resides in the left
exit region of an H5 jet streak. SLRs were above climo with the
snowfall thus far today (generally 13-18:1 with highest in the
mtns and along the Mason-Dixon). Expected light to briefly
moderate snow to continue through the afternoon for most north
of US-50/I-66. The moderate snow will occur wherever brief CSI
bands develop. Locally at our office, we had nice dendrites in
the predawn before briefly tapering to more plate like
structure. As the better jet support has started to move into
the region, we have transitioned back to dendrites. Otherwise,
the focus will be on streamers (snow showers) this evening that
can produce a coating to an inch across the northern half of the
CWA. The Allegheny mountains are in for a life-threatening
Winter Storm with a wind blown 6-12" of snow and dangerously
cold wind chills starting tonight into Saturday. Blowing and
drifting snow will be a serious concern.
