McHenry.  24/7.  Don’t expect to see any ‘legit’ snow for an hour or two while the column moistens.

Nice, should be a great event out there for you. I considered a trip up that way again this year but that was before Monday’s event.

29/21 down here in ashburn, nothing reaching the ground yet. Sfc temp has been slow to fall, so the column is gonna need some work. Hopefully that lead wave does that prep work before the main show

Have you not been here long?  It takes way more than a couple of inches to close DC schools.  They are always the last to fall, if they do.

first time we have a kid in DCPS (PK-4) - so now we pay attention lol

Have they issued the rain and pass out advisory yet?

Oh, I' prepared this time!  Fire pit is going strong.  Half way through a handle.  Cleared snow fro my sleeping spot.  Hand warmers in pockets.  But here is the game changer.  I invested in a sleeping bag after my last blunder:

Details

  • Made for the world's most extreme mountaineering expeditions
  • Rated down to -40F for the coldest, highest mountains
  • 4lb 10oz weight is light for sub-zero temperature class
  • 850+ fill power goose down offers elite loft and packability
  • GORE Infinium adds premium windproof, water-resistant protection
  • V-Block Side Baffles and horizontal baffles keep down in place
  • Double Interlocking Draft Tubes, down collar ruff seal in heat
  • Made is the USA with careful attention to quality and detail

Latest 02Z HRRR at 6AM-- area averaged sounding including most of the DCA-BWI corridor shows a sufficient sounding for some great looking dendrites. We've had more saturated soundings, stronger omega, deeper DGZs in bigger events, but this will still produce some locally heavy snowfall rates and lead to some pretty tough travel conditions. Looks like snow lovers will want to enjoy this one. May not get another real good shot at this again for several weeks.

“way more”? So like… 2” more? DCPS literally closed the other day.

I am assuming it was more about the cold temperatures than the snow amounts, but I heard that they measured about 4" at National airport. I was shocked.  Historically DC schools often stay open when all the other systems close. I don't think they have buses so all the kids walk to school.

You didn’t see? Georgetown got its own rain advisory.

yeah no buses, most kids walk/take public transit.  Although a good number of kids are driven to school.

Makes no sense to close an urban district with no rural bus routes for 1-3/2-4 inches of snow. It would be embarrassing if they did close.
