A great snow day, "just like the ones I used to know". 2
KamuSnow
Picked up another 1/2" to bring the total to 5". Like others have said, it's been a while! Shoveled into an area that had Monday's snow still, and wow, it's been even longer since I remember having 8" on the ground. Who knows what the rest of the winter holds, but this has been an awesome week if you like snow and cold!
Lady Di
Still snowing ever so lightly. Since cleaning off the car it now has more stickage. Still steady 26F Don’t expect that to last long. Son was in with the tractor plowed the driveway. I’ll try to post a pic of the blower cleaning off the New Garden runway. That’s where he’s headed next.

JSharp
Bravo to NWS Mount Holly! They stuck their nose out when others we mocking their storm totals map and their WSWs. 21chuck
Seems like 4-5" in my back patio in the Italian Market area of South Philly. 6.5" when you add what already fell with the storm earlier this week. Feels like Mt Holly really nailed it - wonder if anyone could tell me what they saw that no one else could? It was really a perfect snow day - snowed for all daylight hours, was mostly windless, stuck to everything, no dry slot, no threat of mixing. Beautiful day!

Still a bit on the high side relative to what we got, but then again, my guess is that 5-10 miles north of us most are likely under 2", just based on the radar loop. Very nice, pretty storm and not too much inconvenience for most, I imagine, at least for shoveling, given how light and fluffy it was - was able to use a wide broom for 90% of it. There were definitely some impacts locally with snow covered local streets and even county roads for an hour or two - numerous fender benders reported, but nothing outrageous. Brings us to 7.2" on the season, which shouldn't be too far below normal, which is likely about 11" at this point in the season. Forgot to post this. After shoveling then relaxing some, I went back outside to go run some errands and we had about 0.1" of new snow on the board, cars, etc., which must've fallen after dark, so my total is now up to 2.9" and our season total is up to 7.3". Every tenth helps, lol. Driving around Metuchen, Edison and South Plainfield, all of the county roads seemed to be in good shape, but some of the lightly traveled residential streets were icy in spots, so be careful out there. Temp down to 27F.
Redmorninglight
All in all a nice winter event in Cape May. About 3” on grass and elevated surfaces. Was 33 and snow most of the day with about an inch that never grew due to melting and compaction. If a degree or two colder bigger numbers. Roads and sidewalks finally caved with colder temps around 4pm and snowed nicely until about 7pm. Good call by NWS and short range models. .

MGorse
3 hours ago, 21chuck said: Feels like Mt Holly really nailed it - wonder if anyone could tell me what they saw that no one else could? Overall a period of deeper lift within the dendritic snow growth zone (boosting the fluff factor), thermal column cooling once the snow started (initially surface dew points were in the low to mid teens), and going with higher snow to liquid ratios (about 12:1 to 17:1). Looks like we were on the high side particularly for some areas near and north of I-78, and on the low side across parts of northeast MD into southern DE. Overall to me this was not a classic norlun trough as there was no real heavier focused band of snow aligned parallel to the surface/inverted trough. There was synoptic lift that in conjunction with the surface trough resulted in a wider area of 4-6 inches of snow. I hope everyone enjoyed the snow. I will enjoy my weekend off as it has been a long week. 7 5

Temp down to 27F. I also calculated my snow:liquid ratio for the first time ever (used a roughly 11x11" square section I melted down) got 17.6" of snow per 1" of liquid. I was guessing it was around 15-17, so 17.6 is believable. That means I only had 0.16" of liquid equivalent per 2.9" of snow depth. Just imagine if we had gotten the 0.3-0.4" of precipitation we were looking at on some models 2 days ago and had those ratios - would've been at least 6" of snow on the ground. Damn.
