09-10 analogy
Funny how people in the NYC thread are bitching about the official snow measurements at CPK and airports, just like people around here were complaining about DCA's measurements last winter. MDstorm
Amazing picture. That's a Ji special. Don't worry, though. One week from now, there will be a lot more green on that map to share with us. For now, it's a painful and humbling shot. MDstorm

I feel like it must happen in every major metropolitan area up and down the East Coast (or at least from RDU northward).

I wasn't a member of this forum until two days ago (longtime member of GulfcoastWx.com), but I live about 2 miles from DCA and I distinctly remember my measurements and DCA's measurements being very close. Guess it's a little late to be trying to win that argument though, huh?

CAPE
dt intended to cause trouble with his remark imo the guy is a great met but i'm sorry he has personality issues. i dont need someone posting on my profile asking if i am an idiot. he constantly treats people in a very condescending manner, and frankly would be prob banned if he were not who he is imo. Guest someguy
We have started to pay back some of the karma from last winter. We shafted a lot of folks last year. I am sure it was painful to watch. THAT WAS ALL I WAS SAYING really folks when you think about how DCA to PHL made out like bandits last winter... I know you guys got scrwed out of this one but get a little perspective
real
Will DC's exclusion from this storm keep it from becoming a NESIS 4 or 5. Wasn't Boston's and New York's exclusion of our two biggies last year the reason those only ended up as 3's? But I guess maybe since the South also got hit, this one ends up being a 4?? Guess it's a little late to be trying to win that argument though, huh? I live in Alexandria (Old Town), and the DCA measurements were generally pretty close last year. I'd say better than usual except for the second February blizzard I believe which came in a little low compared to my measurements. I'm a bit northeast of Allentown for this one and we've had a couple inches at best.

Ji
too bad they have less than a week before it all melts. Maybe they can turn NYC into a big waterpark and tube down the streets. Last year is last year We need perspective, but I think this storm gives us the right to complain again. Last year may have marginally made up for 4-5 mediocre to lousy winters, but this storm was a huge slap in the face to the DC Baltimore area, one of the worst shafts we've ever had. Ji
Well, I'm licking my wounds, My 1st instincts were right and then I got suckered by the GFS and eruo and nam shifting towards it before they all edged back east. I ended up with 1.25" here in northern Calvert. As the models go..we go. In the end..the models rule

CAPE
This is not payback. It's sheer blind luck that we got screwed. Our geography killed us its just weather. you cant say the models weren't showing this....ALL of them showed a scrape for DC at one time or another...or a total miss. a few runs showed a decent hit. the odds of a "bust" were always high you had to know that. Last year was payback for the 5-6 lousy winters we had in a row of well below average snowfall while the northeast had great winters. I think the only thing I miss about living in southwest Michigan was the great winters.
caviman2201
So I've had a few to drink and decided it would be fun to epically faceplant into the snow... I can now attest to the fact that Queenstown has enough snow that it didn't hurt. We have at least 6" out there... hard to really find a good spot to measure because of the wind though
Dalfy
amazing this low is just south of ct but precip is apparantly re forming here (dont get me wrong though... its light snow but the fact that there is still returns on radar is quite impressive... usually once the low is parallel to DE the good precip moves out of the area). Herb@MAWS
I'm going with 1/2" of heavy, wind-driven snow until I see the official report -- the drifts are awesome! While we all wanted a big one in DC-Balto region, the positive take-aways today for me are: 1) No need to spend the day sweating, shoveling and getting 4 cars out of plowed-over and -- then later in the day -- RE-PLOWED OVER snow drifts. 2) I can get in my car and go ANYWHERE this morning. 3) The ground is tinted white again for at least 2 days. 4) No late week massive puddles.
