bowtie` Posted November 4 Author Share Posted November 4 9-12 was about the morning and afternoon cirrus. Started off with a 22 degree halo around the morning Sun. Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm... In the afternoon there was a weak sauce 22 degree halo, 2 parhelia (sundogs), and a partial parhelic circle (the white line through the sundogs and the Sun). Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm... bowtie` Posted November 5 Author Share Posted November 5 10-4 was nothing special as far a color went for the sunset. But the type and visual aspect of the clouds made it cool to look at. Started off with the altocumulus looking north when I got out to the firehouse first thing in the evening. Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm... Later, the altocumulus started evaporating off and leaving these nice ripples all the way to the horizon. Taken with the 24-70mm at 35mm... Especially there seems to always be plenty of cirrus around. This month was no different. Started off in the afternoon with a little bit of cirrus and a little bit of cumulus. The winds were whipping and shooting the flags straight out. Taken with the 24-70mm at 35mm... The sunset was all about the cirrus. Both pre-sunset. Taken with the 24-70mm at 35mm... And post-sunset. For a long time, I have been keeping my eyes to the sky hoping to get to image something I normally only see from the winter mountain top imagers. Some of the extra arcs and halos around the Sun. I as partially successful this morning. I was able to see quite clearly although it is a bit vague on the image. I wwas able to image a circumzenithal arc. It is above the 22 degree halo and halfway from that to the top of the image. The colors show up quite well but the coverage of the arc is a little sparse. With that arc being 46 degree above the Sun most people never look that high in the sky and never see it to begin with. I am quite pleased that I was finally able to see this. Sure glad I took some voluntary time-off from work that day as the sunset was real nice and that darn time change has made a mess of me seeing sunsets on workdays. Started off with a vivid sundog (parhelia) on the south side of the sun again. Taken with the 24-70mm at 59mm... Looking ESE at the cirrus in the area. Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm... Back to the SW for the sunset. Taken with the 24-70mm at 55mm... Looking ENE at the color coming into the area. And there is an airliner coming out of KIND heading north to parts unknown above the new light pole. Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm... Looking back to the SW as the reds started to creep into the area. Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm... Looking to the ESE again at the reds in the area. Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm... Looking to the SW at the final colors. Taken with the 24-70mm at 35mm... And the final image of the night. The last of the color on the horizon. Made for a nice time with weather visuals. Starting off with some iridescence in the alto cumulus in the afternoon. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm... When I got out to the overpass for the sunset. THis is taken pre-sunset to show you all the various cloud levels, so you have some context for what came later. Taken with the 24-70mm at 39mm... Looking NNW over the firehouse, as the color was storming through the area. Taken with the 24-70mm at 50mm... And the best image of the day. Looking SW at the best color. All the various levels of clouds, all in various stages of lighting, makes this almost look like it is a composite of two or more images, but I assure this is one pass, haul ass of an image.
