This thing is going to put down like 4” here at the ski area.  It is snowing so hard on Mansfield.

But then look at the radar has some 50+ DBZ cores approaching the west slopes and Spine by Sugarbush and MRG.

Those cores are crazy to me for up here in snow.

I don’t like to criticize and NWS i’m looking at the upstream observations in radar. I think it’s negligent to not have a snow squall, watch or warning or something to let people know if you go take a drive it 3 o’clock this afternoon. You might find yourself in a whiteout.  Those can be dangerous.

* Snow Squall Warning for...
Northern Hampshire County in western Massachusetts...
Franklin County in western Massachusetts...

* Until 245 PM EST.

* At 207 PM EST, a dangerous snow squall was located along a line
extending from Monroe to near Pittsfield, moving east at 40 mph.

HAZARD...Intense bursts of heavy snow. Gusty winds leading to
blowing snow and rapidly falling visibility. Wind gusts
greater than 35 mph.

SOURCE...Radar and webcams.

IMPACT...Travel will become difficult and potentially dangerous
within minutes.

Locations impacted include...
Amherst, Northampton, Greenfield, Orange, Deerfield, Monroe,
Montague, Hadley, Sunderland, Hatfield, Northfield, Williamsburg,
Bernardston, Buckland, Conway, Shelburne, Leverett, Erving,
Shutesbury, and Ashfield.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Reduce speed and turn on headlights! During snow squalls, the
visibility may suddenly drop to near zero in whiteout conditions.
