Definitely more tidal flooding today than the last storm. Meadowbrook Pky, Wantagh Pky near Jones Beach under water. Parts of Howard Beach and Broad Channel under water along with a couple of blocks of Cross Bay Blvd in Queens.

Edit: Island Park LIRR station also flooded.

8.61 ft is the 8th highest tide on record at the Battery.

Moses took a beating, but more incredible is that the GSB appears to have grown by 20% overnight. It’s a combination of factors, new breaches etc, but Captree Island(west side of RM bridge, Seganus Thatch, Grass Island are all basically under water. Maybe it’s temporary, maybe it’s not, either way the long term effects are significant.

take the drive and see

What happened on 9/12/60? I thought December 1992 was first until Sandy superseded it.

Hurricane Donna

Oh that's right!  Thanks, Ed.  Interesting thing about Donna is, it made landfall east of Gloria but the surge was higher in the city-- is this because it had a much larger eye?  Both were Cat 1 at our latitude I think? I don't remember what the result of the reanalysis was in either case.

and as an aside OMG the wind is really bad right now.

Huge wind gusts just rolled through here. LGA is going to have some impressive recordings.

Not too far from LaGuardia, in Bayside right now, and the winds are shaking my car. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some 50+ mph gusts mixed in there. Seems windier than the last more hyped system.

it wasn't just near LGA, I live near JFK and the winds were rocking last night even after midnight!
