Wasn't able to post all day.

Some thoughts:

Definite disappointment overnight, and one of my worst forecasts for Boston metro (waivered 4-8 vs. 6-10, and though I had posted "not totally enthusiastic about these BL temps" after the Sat 0z NAM, I muted those concerns and rode the 36-48h Euro/NAM/GFS and went 6-10). Embarrassing when those who asked for my forecast woke up to rain and wet roads. We ended up ~4" in Coolidge Corner.

I was confident ORH hills to NEMA would hit double digits.

If you look at final totals map... NWS (and @40/70 Benchmark's map) were extremely good forecasts, but the Boston metro was a discontinuity as if a bite was taken out of the 6-8/8-12 contours.

Nothing about the precarious shortwave interactions or storm track or anything really complex... the BL temps were simply too warm and failed to cool with good rates in the overnight hours (you'll recall the 18z NAM Friday night had us wetbulbing to 32-33 by 4am, and Box AFD even mentioned that as rationale for increasing amounts... we easily would have had >6" if that materialized).

In any case, any frustrations were instantly forgotten once CF passed through ~12pm-5pm.  Definite period of >1" / hr rates, huge flakes. Felt like our winter mojo was back. And my toddler excitedly announced to strangers in the grocery store that it was snowing, and got to build his Olaf, so all was good.

CT snowfall totals and town by town maps. I will be updating this today as i get all the new cocorahs data. Pretty huge gradient across CT from 2" all the way up to 17" in Granby. A lot of those reports on that NWS map are old and end at 7am yesterday. Ill have the SNE map and tri-state maps as well for this event. Thanks to everyone who sent in reports.

For here i had the area near that 2-5" line but we were in the 5-10", so with 3.3" id call this storm a bust and a pretty big disappointment. We're approaching two full years without a warning level event here.

17 in Granby?? that's a crazy outlier, maybe caught more from rd 2, but overall a fairly consistent distribution in NWCT, over to ENY and up to SNH... actually that stripe went down to PA, was pretty well modeled I think.

Interesting to see Seabrook to the south at 13” and Kittery northeast at 11”.
Here’s where our super-official, not just jabbed in the ground (or tilted to the left a bit) measurement ended up.
Left is 7:30am 1/7, Right is 7:30am 1/8.

I am so pissed a I nudged Boston from 4-8" to 6-10" at the last moment...I KNEW that I would regret it.

Snow arrived about 2 AM and ended before midnight.  20 hours of mostly light snow, for 5.8" at 12:1, and daily high temp of 17.  Evergreens nicely covered with blue sky above.  (And the next storm has morphed per GYX from a bit of mix then deluge to 6-10" SN Tuesday before the changeover.  Will probably start working back toward the earlier progs tomorrow.)

The winds blowing the snow around up here on top of the hill, beautiful winter scene this morning. Back to brown ground weds.

I think anybody with 8" or more probably keeps pack after this next rainer.

I hope so, but I'm seeing a forecast of low 50's and over 2" of rain for my area.  Not sure my 9 incher can survive that kind of abuse.
