Hopefully we can avoid any major torching. GFS kind of shows how. We get some days in the 40a but no warm rainstorms. Then pattern reload out west toward month-end which makes sense since all the ensembles show that too as MJO goes back around to phase 6/7

Well, if it doesn't snow, then why not?

How torchy are we talking? It's 60° today in mid-January

It depends on like 3-4 different factors. Today we mixed out like 8C at 850…classic downslope dandy. You’re gonna shoot 55-60F when that happens. But if we’re in a low mixing environment with 0 to +3 850 temps, then you’re talking 40s for highs. If theres a cutter involved, then you can spike much higher.

OP Euro (extrapolated) and OP GFS show how you just get some mundane above normal stuff before the reload…but we’ve had some GFS runs that go warmer too.

Incredible warmth has been the story since 12/1 this winter, along with incredible amounts of rain.  Classic strong El Niño winter and more warmth just a few days away.

Hyperbole much?  Dec. 23 was 0.07° hotter than Dec. 22, and Jan to date is running 4.5° less hot than Jan. 23.

I'd it's not IMBY, then I don't care. I'd rather watch the game.

Might be able to see nothing but snowflakes.  :(

I'm not editorializing on the decision, but I've seen a bunch of unhappy folks ripping the NFL when they're just doing what they're told in this instance.  Not that the NFL needs me to defend em.

It all comes down to the lost beer, hotdog, and merch sales.  That's close to 2.5 million at a full stadium.  The NFL calls Hochul and says, "Get out there and cancel the game. Blame it on whatever you need to, but keep us out of it."

I think a foot of snow would be an equalizer for the Steelers too.

I would not call this a classic strong Nino look as PDX has a blizzard.

Not sure if this is tongue in cheek, but I kind of doubt that played in.  This is Buffalo after all.  There would be zero lost beer and hotdog sales.

That stadium will be full 100% no matter what the call is. Been there. Those are hearty tough people and they only have the Bills and snow. Thats it. They are all in!

I have some friends there a lot of freezing rain  with temps in teens and not much treatment on roads. The blizzard warning is like 10-20 miles Northwest for the Gorge.

She said the same thing, she lives right on the shore, have to go inland aways for the snow/blizzard conditions.
