Maybe…but I remember getting 1-2” in northern VA on November 11th after it was 65 degrees with severe thunderstorms earlier that day with a temp of 33-35 during the snow. How??? Because we got lucky with banding and it snowed like crazy for an hour.  We can’t predict where but I think whoever ends up under a heavy band could get a pleasant surprise despite the marginal temps. If it snows hard enough it won’t matter. It will melt as soon as it stops like it did in my November example but who cares.

I will lose sleep later tonight waiting for your banding!!

I remember Jan. 2 of 2022 when I recorded a high of 60 degrees. Next morning I  had heavy snow at nearly 2 " per hr at times. 8" of snow in 6 hrs. with drifting to a depth of 3 ft.

Yes, it can happen!

NWS Sterling

Dec 10 2023 324pm

...RAIN CHANGING TO SNOW OVERNIGHT INTO EARLY MONDAY MORNING...

Rain is expected to change to snow overnight into early Monday
morning. The changeover will occur first at elevations above 1,000
feet near and west of the Catoctin and Blue Ridge Mountains
between 10 PM and 1 AM. The changeover will spread into the lower
elevations, and east into the far northwestern suburbs of
Washington and Baltimore between 1 AM and 4 AM. Precipitation is
expected to end from west to east between 4 AM and 7 AM.

A quick slushy coating on grassy and elevated surfaces is
possible over the lower elevations below 1,000 feet, with
localized amounts around one inch possible. For elevations above
1,000 feet, accumulations will most likely range between 1 and 3
inches, with slightly higher amounts possible over the crest of
the Catoctin Mountains.

Slow down and use caution while traveling.

I wouldn't be mentioning it if it was a bad run, but 18z GFS is good. Has hints of that nearly parallel snow band west of I-95.

On that note, I've decided to relocate back to the family's house in NW Arlington for this one. Thinking the 360ft of elevation may matter. Good luck everyone.

HDRPS has the band in this area as well, again. Not throwing out 10" of snow this time, but good to see.

Hot and humid here. Good luck everyone in Carroll County and in the highlands west of Frederick. If I wasn't working tomorrow I'd be headed over to south mountain for a morning hike to the top.

A number of years ago I drove to South Mountain Park in a similar setup and went from wet ground to 5" of snow and big cottonball flakes coming down.  It was just 33 miles from my house.  I was struck by how little snow was OTG close by near Frederick in the snow shadow

Rain and 56

Is it still 50 in Hagerstown? Looks like dewpoints are dropping places where the wind already shifted NW.

I’m a few miles southwest of Hagerstown.  Wind has shifted to the NW and is picking up.  48° now, down from a high of 52.  DP is 47.  Still raining with 0.55” in the bucket.
