Carvers Gap
@John1122, I hope you don't mind me making a new obs thread. Grayson Co, VA, had a decent amount of ZR this morning as cold got trapped in the mountains. Just looking at social media it was a mess. Anyway, it is raining here at TRI w/ a temp of 43F. This is about completely the opposite of our fall weather patter which was dry and hot. Let's hope this continues.
John1122
I was hoping someone would make it. Got down to 34 overnight but WAA kicked in and it got up to 37 when the rain started.
dwagner88
Overperformed this rain event also. 2.36” in the bucket since Friday morning. Nearly 5” in the past 10 days. That’s awesome. Maybe El Niño is finally reverting to type.

Hopefully, that is the end of fire season.
kvskelton
Thunder overhead in downtown Kingsport. I'm sure there's an old Wive's Tale about "Thunder in December" but I'm unsure what that would entail. With my luck maybe "unexpected appearances by an ex-wife" or "leaky head gaskets by Christmas" or some such. Shame my old Mamaw isn't here to enlighten me to the portent of this storm!
John1122
It rock and rolled here for about 20 minutes around 2:30ish. Headed down to Clinton and it cut off to blue skies around Rocky Top.

John1122
36 degrees here, waiting on that slug of moisture in Kentucky to rotate through and see if I can get my second flakes of the end of year cold season. Feel from 48 to 36 in about three hours after the first heavy showers rotated through around 6ish.
John1122
Snow showing up on radar above 2500 feet with this passing shower.
John1122
The rain is heavier than I expected. It's snowing above 2000ft according to my relatives that live between 2200-2600 ft. Heavy rain with a few slush flakes here and still 36 degrees.

Holston_River_Rambler
I just got a very wintry sleet and rain mixture. Gotta love the NW flow sleet.
Carvers Gap
Snow showers on RadarScope near Dandridge. Anyone have any reports of that being legit?
fountainguy97
Nice burst of convective graupel this morning. Quickly coated grass and mulch. This event was really less of NW flow and just more of convective showers. I never really got more than 2-3 hrs of true NW flow winds. And even then it was mostly dry.

I thought I noticed a little mixing this morning before I left for work-I’m about 45min from Dandridge on Cherokee Lake where Hamblen and Hawkins county border.

Eyeballing estimate of 1-2 inches on top of Wallen Ridge at 3000 ft just south of Pennington gap. John1122
Several hours of heavy rain already. We may not be in a good pattern for winter but we're at least in a different pattern than Sept through most of November.

To add a really late response to that question yes and no. I'm actually attending classes at ETSU so I was in JC for this one. Had nothing to report there... but... My folks back in Honaker said there was a light dusting on the tips of the grass and on other elevated surfaces. I'd call it a trace I reckon. Speaking of obs, this morning back in SWVA is a bit dicey precip type wise. Hovering around 37-38 and I think I see a bit of mix. Nothing will come of it but kinda neat unless I'm seeing things.

Carvers Gap
Anyone north of the TN border seeing snow or rain/snow mix? I see it on radarscope as the system is departing.....
Jed33
I have somewhat good news to report on the rainfall department. We picked up another .37 inches of rain after I posted that response last night. That brought my 2day total to .67. I’ll take it as a win. I’m still behind most people, but gladly take it!
