Start snowing I believe late Friday night or early Saturday whatever that date was and the Tuesday before I just knew it was gonna be big and it never wavered. Before the 1996 blizzard, Richmond was the jackpot zone for days while the rest of us toward DC (Arlington at that time) were supposed to be on the Northern fringe. Not until about 24 hours before the event did everything change and move north of Richmond into the DC area and west. Big short range busts no matter what year / decade or how many upgrades are done. It's a such an inexact science.

There is a big difference between there and Richmond. RIC got 7.4" of snow, briefly flipped over to rain, and then got dry slotted, while areas to the north cashed in. The below radar is about 2 hours before the rain/snow line crept into the metro area, screwing up the totals from SE to NW. There was a large snowfall accumulation gradient across the metro area, probably one of the largest of any storm I've seen.
eaglesin2011
I will happily take 1 to 3 inches in my part of Glen Allen.. At least we won’t have to worry about it getting washed right away this time..… It just shows how hard it is to get a big accumulating snow in this area… Who knows….Maybe the storm will juice up & expand just enough to throw a few more inches up this way…

Was still a good event, but kept most people from reaching 18-24".
