Will happen just maybe a miss for this area and not be as strong as it looked like earlier… just about stopped here in Glen Allen look to be back in the dry air for the next hour again… bummer ..Time to be productive for my real job lol

Still have moderate snow about 5 miles South of you. These rates aren't going to cut it. Despite being in the 20s it seems like it is melting. The roads are all just wet now (my untreated neighborhood road at that). I think 1-2 is more likely for Richmond. 2-3 is reasonable in Chesterfield.

Radar is splitting open, not a good sign. Not so sure those "heavier" rates will make their way up here. They will likely set up shop right around Petersburg and SE.

its building back in per radar.  West is going to continue to show dry due to mountains in western Carolina but will build back in as it crosses into va

I'm going to be the first to say it, this will be a bust for Richmond. Luckily, we set our expectations low yesterday. While yes, the numbers 3 up to 5 were thrown around I just don't see that happening. Those bands we expected to come North have no shot of making their way here. I may be alone but @RIC Airport may agree with me. We need to enjoy the next few hours of light snow we have because that's all that we will get as far as moderate precip.

Typical Richmond screw job. Enjoy the light snow because that’s as good as it’s going to get here.

This is why I wanted to lower my totals to 1-2 inches yesterday but already did my "final" call of 3-5. 1-2 was always much more realistic. Before those in Chesterfield say anything, yes you will end up with a bit more than Richmond.

Sadly. We’ll still see snow here but it will be light

per 12z nam, we were only at .01-05” through 1 pm

Hrrr .01-.05” through 2pm

As the low creeps up it’s going to push the better returns into our area which is what almost all the models show as well

I would love for your arrows to be correct but it won't be pushing any decent rates past Petersburg. If I'm wrong I'll take you to Hooters.

Latest short-range model projections indicate that his statement is true. Snow will wrap up in Richmond between 4-6 pm. Possibly earlier.

We don’t actually know that.

Could be wrong but as @RIC Airportmentioned, you can look at the radar and see where the good rates are going to be and that looks south and east of RIC

There will probably be some fill in as the low gets closer, it's something to monitor in the coming hours.  I personally would feel better if you were living south and east of the city instead of Short Pump, Midlothian or Ashland.

The radar is filling in. The outer band (currently along and southeast of interstate 81) is sinking southeast and the returns will fill in, connecting the band just to our southeast. This will then slowly slip southeast and clear the metro between 6-8.

I fully expect precip to be out of Richmond by 4-5pm.

Also, we can look at the short-range models, but they are not always precise about where bands will develop. Quite a few places well north of Richmond are doing better than expected. There could always be surprises, and we'll have to wait and see how the rest of today goes.

Also, don't forget about the ULL swinging through tomorrow. It, too, could offer some surprises. Hard to say either way, models have varied on its intensity.
