RVAman
Figured I’d pop in as I’ve been gone since the last system. Thinking Sunday it will be really tough for good accumulations due to the warm air prior to snow falling, who knows maybe we’ll get lucky. As far as the mid week storm, it’s better to have it where it’s at now opposed to blasting DC and leaving us all with rain. I’m hoping one of these systems gives us the “big” one. I appreciate the 2-3” systems but we really need a good 6-8”+ regional storm to barrel through

(Sorry folks down SE). Yall may luck out on the big one while we don’t up here. Keep your hopes alive! None of the “well it won’t snow down here in Newport News this winter” comments. It’s only half way through January. Plenty of time.

Rvateach
What sort of impact does Sunday have on later in the week? Like, what should I be rooting for if I want a “decent” midlo snow later in the week…

Like, what should I be rooting for if I want a “decent” midlo snow later in the week… Sunday is not expected to have much impact; however, if enough snow accumulates in areas given this arctic air is moving in, there could be possible delays or cancellations on Tuesday. Most places will be closed on Monday. Meanwhile, the 18z Euro AI suggests a slightly more northern track for the mid-week storm. This is a favorable trend to root for as we get closer to the event. It has 0.20" of QPF for Richmond and between 0.30 and 0.40" for Hampton Roads. With air temperatures ranging from 20 to 30 degrees, this could lead to decent minor event and is worth monitoring. 5

But, could be a trend back in the right direction. Looks to me for the Richmond metro area, looking at this run only, the best time for accumulating snows is between 3pm and 7pm. We will be fighting boundary layer issues and surface temps above freezing up until ~3pm. Taking this run verbatim.

Seems qpf quite a bit higher this run vs 18z.

Conway7305
CMC may be on to something, lol. Seriously though, 18z euro shifted N, 0z CMC shifted N and I can see a slight shift N on the GFS run from 18z for Storm #2. 1
