Ravens revamped “pass happy” offense and they just run the ball down team’s throats lol

They are who we thought they were. I would like to see Lamar with more TD passes, but when you can dominate on the ground like that, you eat clock and demoralize a defense.

They're still better passers than a year ago. All we have to be is just good enough in that area! And actually...I can see us even getting better down the stretch. Overall, we have a very balanced team.

What the heck just happened...Vikings had no right to win but I'll take it. Atlanta must be awful and the Vikings backups are pretty good it seems. Sweet victory

No Kirk, No JJ, No Darrisaw.  Rookie QB who has been practicing all week gets a concussion in the first quarter.  And they win with a guy that they just traded for and had never even taken a snap from the center.  Amazing.

Warning: quintessential weenie question incoming.

If the UA and surface setup before the great Appalachian storm of 1950 had been offset to the east by, say, 200 miles, would the DC area been hit with Pittsburgh-level snows?

All weeieeism aside, that 1950 storm has always fascinated me. Blizzard in Pittsburgh while 40 and rain in buffalo. One of my favorite novels, Suttree by the late Cormac McCarthy,  was set in 1950 Knoxville and he did the research so throughly that the unprecented Arctic outbreak in that storm’s wake (5 in Knoxville) featured in the book.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Appalachian_Storm_of_1950

The NCEI snowfall map from the storm actually paints DC/Baltimore in 2-6”.

Spent the day in Richmond attending the mid Atlantic severe weather conference. So much good weather research going on these days, and got to meet a lot of folks I’ve known from Twitter in broadcast meteorology and emergency management.

Sounds great, do you know if they will be posting a summary of proceedings? Can anyone attend, if they hold it next year?

I am not sure if they will have a summary, here is their website: https://www.midatlsevere.com/

It is open to the public, tickets were reasonably priced. They will have it next year, trying to align it with AMS Severe Conference that is happening in VA Beach at the end of October, so their thought is to hold the event in Richmond following that AMS Conference nearby. I think October 26th 2024 was the date I saw, but that could change.

You wanna see snow? Go WEST, young man!

Looks like at least five inches of fresh snow off the 8200' Scope!

McCoy Station at 9600 feet at Mammoth Mtn is getting destroyed!! Even in the night, you can see those flakes falling! I bet they end up with close to a foot of fresh snow by morning!

https://www.mammothmountain.com/on-the-mountain/mammoth-webcam/mccoy-station

Sometimes the camera shows a light and you can see, McCoy is THE REAL DEAL tonight! They are getting HAMMERED!

Mammoth is getting smashed so damn hard, they are makin' Palisades look bad! lmao

Some angles on the main lodge camera, wow you can really see those BIG frackin' flakes falling, gettin' blasted sideways!

I am so damned excited, I wanna scream it from the housetops like a MANIAC! This is gonna be a RECORD season for the western ski resorts!

Official reports have 1.6” in DC for the great Appalachian storm and 0.5” for Baltimore.

Did some digging, the CO-OPs that were around then from this area reported 14-18 inches, and lows in the single digits to near 0.

Amazing to see visually how the bottom can just drop out at IAD in the right conditions.

Interesting, though I do have a minor gripe about the axis points changing from graph to graph.  I just wrapped up a graduate data analytics class where I basically lived in Cognos and had to create visualizations for 2 months, so I've become picky lol.  Not surprisingly, warm/humid is the most frequent pairing.

Check out the ground on the 8200' scope at Palisades! Some of the snowpack has been shoveled away. I'd say that's at least 5-6 inches of fresh snow!

https://www.palisadestahoe.com/mountain-information/webcams

Check out the Siberia Cam at Palisades! What a splendid sunset glow on all of that fresh snow, look at that snowdrift line all along the edge of the Abyss!

They are getting a good start, and the Pacific Storm Pipeline is only just beginning to clear her throat. Gonna be a boom year for snow all up and down the Sierra Nevada!

I now can't unsee this. I've been facedeep in R creating visualizations and heatmaps on genetic datasets for the past month and the first thing I noticed was "oh hey, probably done in ggplot w/ the viridis package", not the actual data. Not surprised, we do warm/humid well here.

Got a chance to meet and hang out with WxWatcher007 this evening and it was a blast. I certainly want to meet more in here in the future. Tonight was so great!
PS: If you've never been to El Sapo in Silver Spring, you have to go! Authentic Cuban cuisine that will knock your taste buds out. Outstanding

Feel like we desperately need a pseudo-official meetup soon. It’s been a long time — and now I’m past old enough to drink at one.
