franklin NCwx
4 hours ago, UpStateCAD said: Where is Soco? Is it near Waterrock Knob west of Waynesville? How much land up there is above 5000 ft? You think it would be the most affordable, high probability snow terrain in NW NC? It's between Maggie and cherokee. Not sure on the land but there are some houses on the Haywood County side above 5k. Once you cross into Jackson you're on the reservation and can't own land there unless you're cherokee. Also, you're not far from the casino and the ski slope. Great rental potential!
BhamParker
It’s snowing at a decent clip here again. Windshields are covering back up. .
Met1985
Well the mountains of WNC did jackpot this storm. You just cannot bet against our mountain range. I think the HRRR was the best short range model. We had the moisture but thermals were not we're we needed them to be. This was definitely an elevation dependent storm.
WarmNoseHater
Definitely - at 3700' near Todd we ended up around 6" total (a little hard to confirm) but down the mountain on 221 it was far less.

MotoWeatherman
I've measured a foot now at 4650 here on Beech. Today's flow far overperformed with the minimal moisture that was available. Looking forward to the next event which will be a little bit of synoptic and a lot of flow snow. I'm thinking another 5-10 is in order for the usual flow snow locations.

I'm not site about what's the best spot up through there except maybe Roan mountain. Definitely Beech and Roan. Beech is easier to access since they keep it plowed for skiers. Roan will probably pull over a foot this weekend.Zionville on the west end of the county does pretty good as well if you wanna avoid the masses on the ski mountain.
Buckethead
Just throwing this out there...this neighborhood has almost 1300 homes, and probably a third are short term rentals. You may find a deal too since the ski resort hasn't opened yet this season. Just a thought going forward!Sent from my SM-S908U using Tapatalk

Tyler Penland
Ah darn. I’ll be near Grandfather.Beech is very close to grandfather. Like 10 miles from the Tynecastle intersection. Roan is more of a drive, around an hour or so.

Echoing what Tyler said. Beech is king of this area for flow snow. That's why we got a place up there. Ha ha

WxKnurd
Had fallen to 5.5, back up to 6.1 now. Dewpoint is 1, don’t think we’ll go that low but wouldn’t be surprised to see 3 or 4 for the official low tomorrow morning.
MotoWeatherman
3 on Beech and yet the snow continues to fall. Lol Another 4-8 looks like a decent bet Friday into Saturday. CamWest-00-235036-235041.mp4
