We may still find a way to sneak in another 90° or two if that big -PNA +EPO pattern verifies later in the month. Also could see our first tropical system if the Gulf or Western Caribbean becomes more active. Much easier for CV systems to recurve.

It wouldn't surprise me if we went from summer to winter with barely any fall

That 96 we had 4 years ago was in October IIRC.

A strong cold front will cross the region tomorrow with some heavy thunderstorms. Parts of the region could experience street and highway flooding as excessive rainfall amounts are possible. Behind the front, some of the coolest temperatures so far this fall are likely.

Hurricane Lee will remain a powerful storm over the next several days. Atlantic Canada faces the highest risk of landfall, but New England landfall still cannot completely be ruled out. The ECMWF offers the farthest west track on the operational guidance. Eastern Long Island and eastern New England could experience heavy rains and high winds as Lee passes offshore.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +2.9°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +1.6°C for the week centered around September 6. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +3.20°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +1.38°C. El Niño conditions will likely continue to strengthen into the fall with the current East-based event transitioning to a basinwide El Niño for the upcoming winter.

The SOI was -24.06 today.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was +0.438 today.

On September 10 the MJO was in Phase 4 at an amplitude of 2.211 (RMM). The September 9-adjusted amplitude was 2.506 (RMM).

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied 78% probability that New York City will have a warmer than normal September (1991-2020 normal). September will likely finish with a mean temperature near 71.5° (2.3° above normal).

Surfers delight pattern with a very clean 10”+ swell making it back to Long Island and a perfect offshore flow. Great for migrating shorebirds as the overwash will fill up the back beach tidal pools behind the berm. Sure there will be some beach erosion, but nothing as bad as we have seen at times in the past when the low was much further west.

Looks like one of the bigger busts....1-2 inches of rain in Upton's forecast so unless something develops later most will see nothing unless you're well north-models too far south with the convection

Not sure what the hype was. Models weren't all that enthused and the timing was off.

Yep a big bust

It was supposed to rain all day. Looks like it will rain this morning.
