Looks like we'll finish August with our 1.42" of rain.  Looking pretty dry for the next few weeks.  The way this year is going we'll prob get drenched in the latter half of Sep, then have a dry Oct, etc.

Overall it's been sort of a dry year.  MLI is down over 9 inches for the year, and over 5 inches since June 1st.  The heavy rains in July definitely helped, but we've sort of reverted back into the default dry pattern again.

If we have not had any heatwaves so far this year, I say there's not going to be one at all this year.

00z GFS says heatwave cancel

Forget about a heatwave until at least next year.

Today was, thankfully, a very normal day with partial clouds. It topped off at 82 with a dew point of 64. Yesterday was almost entirely cloudy and in the upper 70's for the high. The sunset tonight has some pink cirrus clouds and some gray cumulus clouds that are kind of blocking me from seeing the sunset.

Also note: Toledo  CoCoRAHS reports got 3.09" to 3.85" over 48 hours this week. I was able to stay up to watch a lot of lightning on the second one.

Today was the 4th day of overcast crap that I've been dreading to see make itself again. TWN forecast completely flopped showing partly cloudy, early this morning it was dark with thicc canopy. Got this blast of rain coming from the north at noon that also sucked. The last 4 days my forecast was completely wrong and its been awful. The sun came out at 5pm today so got something.

Very Autumnal like day.  Breezy with a high of 56.  Frost advisory for portions of the interior UP tonight, point has 38 here for the low.  Will likely be some 20's in traditional cool locations.

40s expected here tonight.

Frost advisory up there :o

Dang Bo, I thought it was autumnal here with our breezy high of 72 today, but you are six weeks ahead of us. Great to be able to open windows again.

MQT's frost adv is the first of this season in the lower 48.  The last frost adv issued in the lower was on June 23rd, out of the Pocatello, ID WFO.  The last one issued by MQT was June 12th, so that's a 75-day respite from frosty weather.

Interestingly, the only other August frost I've had since living here was Aug 28th of 2015 I believe.

Low reached 38 here with a light frost on the roof.  I see Ironwood made it all the way down to 30 with a heavy frost over that way.

A couple other cold spots... Baraga Plains 27, Kenton 30, and Wakefield 31.

Funny that frost in the UP is now seen as a big deal in late August. We used to have hard freezes in Ohio in late August just a few decades ago.

It wasn't a big deal, it just doesn't happen widespread every year.  And the point you're trying to make is silly and borderline stupid.

The point is not silly or stupid. Sure, the 1982 cold snap was a record-breaker. Now, we're lucky to see a day or two below 50F, but it used to dip into the 30s in August regularly. It's that dramatic of a change. We likely won't see 1982 conditions for two months.

Anyways, I'm allowed to be upset about the loss of a natural climate. Regardless of whether the elimination of occasional late summer frosts and freezes were advantageous to agriculture. Just look at Bradford, Pennsylvania. Used to be one of the coldest spots in the country.

August freezes in 1965, 1968, 1972, 1976, 1982, and 1986. None since 1986. It hasn't even been below 40F in the month of August since 2014, and the last time below 38F was in 2004. I mean look, it's barely dropped below 50F this month. This type of a change has to have a drastic impact on the local ecosystem.

Just because it hasn't impacted the U.P. to the same degree yet, don't think you won't escape these changes. Bradford, Pennsylvania is in one of the most remote parts of the eastern U.S., surrounded by the Allegheny National Forest.
