It is amazing that despite having 3-4" of rain in a relatively short amount of time, there's really no runoff issues at all. Just goes to show how dry things truly are rn. In an average summer, this would probably have been at least a minor flood event. This event should at least put the drought off for a week or two, depending on how hot things get next week and for how long.

3.13" from 2 bands of rain yesterday afternoon and overnight.  The news on the radio this morning said some areas got 5" or more.  No real drought concerns here unlike earlier in the summer.

So a dewpoint of about 55 should be a good compromise forecast, right?

The mets where I work are definitely siding more with the Euro, already hoisting "First Alert Days" for heat Sunday and Monday.

Mid 30s dewpoints in Iowa in August doesn’t even seem climatologically possible without antecedent drought conditions.

Decent threat of svr wx this aftrn. Hoping for some intense downpours. Was in the mid 80's (upper 60's dews) yesterday after a stretch of low 70's. Looks like a decent stretch of summer in the coming days, but after that...mmm potpourri I guess. Potpourri is typical my way anyway. Avg's start there descent in a big way in a couple weeks.

Looking at model runs this morning, looks like a good douching in S Cal with a tropical system moving in along the Baha. Seems to me it has been a few years since they have seen one move through down there.
