Looks like the HRRR sniffed out something, but looks like garbage over this way for tonight. Wonder what the next SPC outlook will look like. Almost looks as though storms are firing along the higher dew point gradient from N IL points southeast into Indiana. 


Dare I say… this mornings bullshit in Indiana forked SWMI once again by working over the atmosphere creating a rather large cold-pool, and only slowly advanced that cold-pool NE into the area while better untapped air pushed into northern Indiana? 
 

Time will tell.

   NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   730 PM CDT Fri Jul 28 2023

   The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

   * Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of 
     Eastern Iowa
     Northern Illinois
     Northwest Indiana
     Lake Michigan

   * Effective this Friday night and Saturday morning from 730 PM
     until 200 AM CDT.

   * Primary threats include...
     Scattered damaging winds likely with isolated significant gusts
       to 80 mph possible
     Isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible
     A tornado or two possible

   SUMMARY...Initial supercells appear to be growing upscale near the
   Mississippi River and should accelerate east-southeast across much
   of northern Illinois tonight.

   The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 65
   statute miles north and south of a line from 40 miles south
   southwest of Cedar Rapids IA to 85 miles east northeast of
   Marseilles IL. For a complete depiction of the watch see the

   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

   REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
   favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
   Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
   weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
   warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
   tornadoes.
