It really just hits you immediately upon going outside.  This is as bad as I can recall.

This is when I'm glad to be retired and not have to be out working in this.  A day breathing in this crap all day and it will be like if I crushed 2 packs of Pall Malls.

Only side benefit from this is the cool air.  Usually the bad AQ days are when we are expected to get to the 90s-100s

I’ve seen a lot of people with masks, which makes sense.  Driving into work felt like I was in 1970s LA.

I had to come into the city today, and I kept thinking that if I opened the window I would immediately start sweating since it looked like it should have been 85 and humid at 7:00 am.

Definitely reminded me of growing up in the 80s and walking out of the house and into a hazy soup *every morning* in the summertime.

This. Air quality is remarkably better than it was 20+ years ago. Sky is blue in summer again! Usually at least…

Yep, put on a KN95 for the first time in a while this AM for the walk to school with my kid. He has reactive airway disease and was really feeling it, so he also wore one.

They aren't perfect but they stop some of it. Better than nothing.

I live 5 min from there.  That's right on my running route to Sligo Creek.  I opted for a peloton ride today though.

It’s so true. I was honestly shocked when I looked this up the other day.

Lots of reasons for this, but one big one is that the aggregate vehicle fleet is MUCH cleaner than it was in the 1980s, and much cleaner than it was in 2000s.  All of the hybrids and EVs, and tougher fuel efficiency standards, have really helped. So has the switch away from coal toward burning natural gas for power.

Supposed to go camping at Cunningham Falls this weekend.  Don't think I wanna sleep outside in a cloud of smoke.  I was looking at the 48 hour HRRR and it looks like another plume Friday.  Anyone know if it's supposed to clear up Saturday?

Indeed, and I'm curious about same -- slated to camp out just north of Allentown, PA region this weekend. I wonder now if this is going to drag out longer than expected. Yech.

Just got a code red AQ alert

I've never seen AQI numbers like this in our area ever...this number crept up 20-30 points since I first started watching it around 6 a.m. today. Some pics looking across neighborhood...filtered sun is easy enough to see, but I didn't quite capture the inability to clearly see treetops even 1-2 houses away. Unreal....SURREAL, even.

Low visibility with the smoke. Can’t even see across the Patapsco River. Burning odor too.

Sam on the other side of the patapsco River. Although it looks like it's trying to thin out
