jm1220
Sun looks like a reddish orb in the sky. Crazy how dense this is. Burns your eyes too.
Jacob brooklyn
It's like eye comfort shield outside in the sky. On my phone it seems like eyecomfort shield is off because of the sky. Samsung users will know what I am talking about

jm1220
You can tell that improvement is inching its way south through the Hudson Valley and CT on the visible sat-that’s where you see clouds bubbling up away from the smoke. But we’re socked (choked) in for a while around the city.
bch2014
Things seem *SLIGHTLY* brighter here in Hoboken than they did 15 minutes ago.
Wannabehippie
Air quality index is in 300-400 range, which is horrid.
TheClimateChanger
Impressive to see a 6 degree temperature drop right around local solar noon just two weeks before the summer solstice. Like a miniature nuclear or impact winter. 1
2112wxgrl
It became a little brighter in Wantage NJ a bit ago. The regional HS closed early due to smoke inside the building. If you were alone in a hall, you could see a haze per my teen.

psv88
Stepped outside and the air smells horrible, sun is gone. Definitely in the worst of it right now.
TWCCraig
Visibilities less than a mile now. Looks unreal outside. Everything is orange, the smell is strong. Unreal
JustinRP37
I honestly think the Yankees should postpone until tomorrow. This is not healthy for athletes to play in nor for fans to sit in.

jm1220
Down to 1mi visibility at Farmingdale and 1.5mi at JFK. 0.75mi at Central Park and 1mi at Islip.
wxeyeNH
If it had been overcast it would have been near midnight dark. This has happened a few times in history but this is definitely a once in a generation (at least) event. The upper low over Quebec was in the perfect position to drive the smoke plume down the coast.
Roger Smith
We had this same air quality emergency in 2021 about a month after the heat dome, it was much warmer than you currently have it, around 90F but same air quality (readings above 300). I got very ill during that spell, not sure if it was COVID or the smoke affecting my lungs, but perhaps both. If you're at risk, take care. It took me about three weeks to recover fully from the lung problems. At least if the upper level flow returns to wessterly or southwessterly this smoke should stop flowing south but it may take a few days to vent it all away.
