I just saw the car-sized drone fly over my house in White Plains, NY. I am close to the corner of Davis Avenue and Prospect Street. It had red flashing lights, and was making a pretty loud humming sound.” Little does he know, there’s a drone base aka Westchester County Airport, nearby. This shouldn't happen any more since we are now a restricted airspace.

Damn I must have caught that too, I was sick for 2 weeks and had to take a really strong antibiotic. Just starting to get better now. The worst part was the jaw pain I couldn't even eat solid food because it hurt so much.

coastalplainsnowman
What do we consider the 'official' definition of a White Christmas? Would it be defined as any December 25th in which the official snowcover is measured at greater than 0?

In the US it's defined by at least an inch on the ground.
LibertyBell
It's too bad we don't have a 2024 reminiscing thread, but since the year is coming to an end we should reflect on the top events (not necessarily weather related) of 2024. Here are my top 3 1. The amazing northern lights display we saw down here in October, once in a lifetime !! 2. The earthquake back in April and the aftershock later that same day, wow!! 3. October pitched a perfect game with 0 rainfall here and was the perfect backdrop to that wonderful northern lights display in the same month !! Added onto this the longest rainless streak of my lifetime, 42 days or 6 full weeks !!
NorthShoreWx
If it takes a bridge to get there, it doesn't exist. The universe consists of LI and the void. OC (and NYC) are imaginary places. I don't get why people from imaginary places can't understand this. Now go back to enjoying your fake snow.
Volcanic Winter
Iceland in winter is awesome!! https://imgur.com/a/NcMT77O We did four nights in Reykjavik to capture the Xmas vibes then moved out to the country where it became a total winter wonderland. At one point we had like 36 hours of steady light to moderate snowfall without any substantial wind (somewhat rare) - absolutely perfect conditions! About 18-28 degrees out there for most of the trip.

That October display here really was unbelievable, not something we’ll see topped for a long time if ever. The sky here was vivid pink and purple… It seemed like the sun shut off soon after they declared solar maximum, or at least activity died down quite a bit while we were in Iceland. On top, the sky was cloudy with precipitation for most of our trip - so it wasn’t a great Aurora trip. Thankfully we had tons of snow!

If you're ever in Reykjavik and looking for a night out hit up Kaffibarinn. I now have couches I can crash on in Reykjavik because of a drunken drug fueled night at that bar. 1

We had snow inland too-but rain in the city and near the airport on the last day...no above ground power lines too much wind.

Many.... but drones are a serious source of light pollution, I can't tell you how many times I'm outside trying to take pictures of the night sky and an annoying drone buzzes by like a bee and I want to down the damn thing This isn't a now thing, it's been like this for a few years now. At the very least they should not be allowed to fly at night EVER
