It's pretty common in the fall here with the first super cold 500mb low crossing Lake Michigan.

Got a bit more graupel/rain. low-altitude CAPE exists. In a recent video by Convective Chronicles (youtube) low-altitude CAPE analysis or short-term forecast is quite effective at identifying areas of tornadoes. And of course, the same exact thing low-altitude CAPE is the reason lake effect snow gets going, that is, adequate updrafts in the winter. (pretty much like today)

Off and on snow/rain mix yesterday, and some flurries today. Nothing substantial.

Northern lights are incredible tonight.

I want to see those again some day. I only witnessed them once, 45 years ago. It's very rare to see them in Northeast IN.

And yet you managed to post here. #CarringtonEventCancel

Man if we had a carrington event, we would have a crazy explosion on the sun our satellites would pick some crazy videos. We narrowly dodged one in 2012 by 3 days that was near carrington level. It’s only a matter of time

Looks like snow will be gone a tad sooner this year (maybe another week) thanks to the crazy week of warmth, I can't imagine how long it'd have hung around if this had been a typical April.

Cool one today with a high of 34 forecast but at least the uprising and violence in the coop is under control now that the ladies are able to roam, scratch around, eat worms.  Thankfully they'll shit more outside too.  winter coop duty- not fun.

Does your ground freeze with all that snow?

This year frost was only 10” in snow covered areas. Some years it’s feet thick. Just depends when the deep snow hits. There are weight and speed restrictions on the county roads now for the deep frost but even that isn’t too deep this year with the mild winter and warmth early.

Alright, I'm complaining. 40 degrees and cloudy is stinking December. You know what else. It's just cloudy, like really cloudy. I heard there were aurora borealis all over the place because of a geomagnetic storm and it's just cloudy. Maybe I'll look on the bright side. Not too many bugs yet.
