Aren't you worried about your well?

Yes and no. Nobodies well went dry around here during the drought last summer; and most people still kept watering their lawn. Must be enough water?

I don’t know, I’ve spent enough money on my grass and landscaping getting it established from literally an empty lot, I kind of want to finish it off with a watering system.

I get it, but I remember you were sweating bullets.

Yeah, and to be fair, that may have just been me being worried over nothing lol. It ended up being unfounded because nobody in this area ever drew their wells dry.

I can guarantee if I get an irrigation system though, my well will run dry this summer. Book it.

Seed in the spring or fall? Spend spring removing anything unwanted and levelling the ground then seed in fall?

I mean you can seed in either. The issue w/ the spring is your grass seed is competing w/ weeds so it's less effective and also you can't apply herbicides to control crabgrass etc- because that stops all germination.

When I "started over" I seeded both (spring/fall) for like 2 yrs...but shifted to a late summer/ fall de-thatching and seeding followed by spring crabgrass, grub control application cycle. Which is effective.

Mentioned in the other thread, but anyone in se Mass area have an irrigation installer they’d recommend?

Check your inbox, I dropped you a contact. As an owner of a Irrigation Company since 1987, last year was tough, we have several clients that are on  wells and went dry, some had the financial means to dig another well or "frack" it, most that did, had good results. If your well is producing less then 3 GPM, I would use caution...

Is there a way I can calculate my yield? Or do I have to have someone come out

If your home when they arrive to do the estimate, have them do a flow rate, they will hook a guage to an outside faucet, they should run it long enough to drain down the storage tank if your on a well etc. Some well companies will write the GPM on the storage tank etc. You can also use a 5 gallon pail and a stop watch (see YouTube vids)

Is having a pressure tank and water softener going to make this method void?

Negative, is the water softener going just for the inside of the house? I doubt going to outside faucets, plumber will hook irrigation feed BEFORE softener 90% off wells have pressure tank, no issue, also pump size ( 1/2 HP....3/4 hp ....1 HP common)

If anyone wants to go an organic route on their lawn I have been having amazing success with the following products. I'm using this in my 5000 sqft fenced in area for my small dog.

Purely Organics for lawn fertilizer. Available at Home Depot. I believe its made from recycled grain from a brewery. Works similar to Milorganite with the soil and you can't burn your lawn with it. I use 3 bags a year.

$31.97 for 25lb bag that does 5000 sqft.

I don't use much of any herbicides. A healthy established lawn doesn't really need any. I will walk around and spot treat with a sprayer using some Tenacity which is semi organic made from Mesotrione derived from the bottle brush plant.

I also use this organic one that is just Iron HEDTA.

For ticks and insects I spray wondercide every 30 days. Its just cedarwood oil. I also have had amazing success putting their cedarwood oil on my dog for ticks.

For grubs I drop a bag of Grub Gone. Its active ingredient is Bt, a naturally-occurring soil bacterium

Here is Woody enjoying the organic lawn.

Looks like a perfect weekend with the rain to drop some fertilizer or pre emergant on the lawn.

Soil temperatures in a good portion of southern areas have been averaging above 50 for 5 days.

Check yours here.

I'm at 45 right now, should I wait for 50 to put some seed down?

I have a wild violet problem, nothing I've tried has worked , best I've done is limit them spreading. Anyone know how to take care of them?
