This image is really all I have to show for my chase yesterday. This is from the Peoria cell; pic was taken near  some collection of farm shacks called Cornell on I-27. The storm kinda looked meh on radar when I got to it and it was a very messy affair overall with tons of rain and smaller cells popping up a few miles east. I definitely did not go about things safely; instead of approaching from the SW where I could actually see what was happening, I sat in the rain and let the storm come to me. I thought the storm was going to shit until the rain cleared and the edge of the mesocyclone became very apparent. I bailed due east to avoid getting screwed, got lost in the rain again, and the emerged to find the storm seemingly tightening up directly in front of me. End product was the little chode in the picture. For the briefest of seconds it was an actual tornado with a pair of suction vortices making it to the ground. Broad circulation continued for a bit and that was that. Tried to chase the cell on the way home but once it gets ahead of you, there's simply no catching up.

@hlcater got it, too. Appears he was a little further south initially so you can see the meso handoff and "twins" better. In real time I'd thought the whirl of debris that abruptly appeared behind the tree line was just the original tornado getting closer and emerging from the rain; not that that murky mass in the background was still the original tornado. There's a reason I don't intend to get super close, lol.

DVN has rated the tor in their western cwa as an EF4...

After collaboration with a team of survey experts, we have determined a prelim. rating of low end EF4 for the tornado that tracked from Wapello into Johnson County IA. Max estimated winds around 170 mph. Max width around 600 yards. The EF4 damage occurred at a farmstead N/NE of Keota in Keokuk County, where a house was swept off the foundation. We are still finalizing additional details.

Yep, the second wedge tornado from that cell got the EF4 ranking after sweeping away a farmstead just N/NE of Keota.

A bit late, but I worked at 11pm last night and again at 3pm today so my whole "post chase" process is a bit delayed. Don't have much to add off of what has already been posted but I started the day in Mt. Pleasant and planned to just kinda wait and play the field with the developing supercells. The wave in the morning was still a bit stable and while they were supercellular aloft, they were not surface based so I did not follow them east. I drove to fairfield to wait for the storms to the south and west to mature and ultimately chose the storm that would track near Ottumwa as it was obvious on radar/vis that it was the dominant storm. Perhaps due to some Winterset PTSD, I chose to stay miles and miles ahead of the storm and instead of close intercepts, planned my routes with keeping up in mind. Still, these were some of the most visually impressive tornadoes I have seen. Especially the Keota EF4.

Handoff near Keota.

The Keota tornado about as it was doing EF4 damage. This may be my favorite shot I've ever taken.

Again as it was approaching Wellman. Big dusty wedge for most of its life. For those familiar with 2/28/17, think of it as Washburn on steroids.
