From my friend M.H. in Montreal... this looked like a legit damaging ice storm.  They are actually probably lucky a lot of it was convective.  They were getting thunderstorms at like 26 degrees, and probably had some runoff without getting the full weight of the QPF.

That is what it’s all about right there. That is perfect. I had half that amount of ice but couple it with 55+mph wind gusts.. all kinds of damage broke loose. Ice is absolutely awesome

Low of 22° this morning.

A degree cooler than here, where the wind never fully quit overnight.  Maybe teens for sunrise service tomorrow.

Tha Montreal damage seems disproportionally great for the accretion - maybe some wind with the TS?   Of course, most of the breakage appeared to be Norway and silver maples, both noted for ice damage.

Nice out in sun . Get out and after it

It is and it isn't.

36F here off a low of 20F... I think the low dews of like 8F and NW 20 is making it hard for the sun to overcome right now.  The real prize is tomorrow afternoon onward IMO.  Monday should be sublime.

Although this same set-up doesn't feel or look like it does outside in November.  It's so bright out there.  Sun in April just hits differently.

I sort of had the same thought.  Big, old and heavy tree variety.  The older stuff that was planted when those neighborhoods were built... same tree the whole length of streets and all of them damaged.

Mark your calendar and put in for a vacation day now.  The astronomical event of a lifetime is coming to New England a year from today. (April 8 2024) A total eclipse of the sun. The path of totality passes through NNE.  I saw one in Aruba many years ago and it is something you will always remember.  Fingers crossed the weather is as good as today.

You going to the primo spot to see it? I'm considering going, going to try and talk the wife into a few days up north.

The amount of money that’s going to be wasted to stare at clouds and fog is going to be epic

At least you’re consistent year round

Even if it is cloudy a year from now, it’s absolutely worth traveling for.
