andyhb
Absolutely violent tornado heading for Amory, and that is not a small town.
stormdragonwx
You can pretty much make out the tornado vortex itself. I haven't seen a CC debris ball depicting a donut in a long time.
KoalaBeer
Man hopefully it avoids Smithville, don’t need to relive that horror. Terrible situation unfolding, maybe it just barely went north of Amory? Looking at google maps it looks less developed on the north side of town. Calderon
Likely hit the paper mill and a boat factory on the northwest side by the river.

Unfortunately, Smithville's misfortunes look to be had again any moment.
stormdragonwx
It appears to have grazed the south side of Smithville going by the CC data.
WxSynopsisDavid
Wow….260mph+ gate to gate. It’s been a very long time (since Moore and El Reno 2013 EF5’s) that Ive seen radar velocities this extreme.
WxSynopsisDavid
Both the debris ball and couplet exceed 2.5mi in width. This is a potential record tornado in progress for width and a potential top-5 violent tornado in terms for velocity. Really hope this isn’t mixing to the surface but given debris is exceeding 40,000ft it’s likely this is an EF5.

Yes, I got the same thing, it's 262.8mph, and effectively I haven't ever been able to see the data is this high of quality for this type of delta-v in my life. Quincy
It’s also very close to the radar site, so we’re getting lower scans that we don’t often see with intense tornadoes. Undoubtedly EF-3+.
andyhb
That was a devastating hit on the northern portion of Amory.

Undoubtedly EF-3+. The fact it was close to the radar yet still getting 260mph+ velocities is ridiculous.

Chinook
basically that would convert to 131.1mph one way and 131.1mph the other way. But hey. that's like Cat-4 tornado (113kt-137kt)

I hope so … Thought I heard on the scanner the Exxon gas station is completely gone. That would line up well with the CC drop. Plenty of homes around there unfortunately. The scanner is heartbreaking.
