That map only shows another 1 inch or so in my area for the rest of the day and evening. I can confidently say that map will be a massive fail on the low side. We will get that much in the next hour to 1 1/2 hours.

It has almost nothing for northern nj and we know thats currently not the case. Lol That's the Kuchera map which is more useful in this case for actual accumulations vs just white rain. MANDA
3” on unpaved surfaces. Still 29 degrees. Light to sometimes moderate snow. My lightly traveled street has been plowed a few times and is only slightly snow coveted.
jm1220
Some flurries here in Melville. Unless these bands really produce later today this will be just white rain near/east of the city.
ForestHillWx
Over 2.5” now. Decent rate coming down. Road is still ok.
Bxstormwatcher360
Temp is 36f but my dp has dropped 3 degrees to 33 in a couple of hours and falling. That ct low is really trying to pull the cold air down. Eastern l.i and coastal new england still rain. Snow in nyc.

ForestHillWx
Visible sat shows almost a cleared out “eye”. Pretty cool. If only we had a decent HP in Quebec for this one.

winterwx21
Heavy snow here. Huge flakes, but it's not accumulating at all even on colder surfaces. White rain as expected. We really needed this to happen at night for our area with the borderline temps. Glad folks to the northwest are getting to see accumulation though.

My guess is that is the temp at HPN. NWS uses HPN for our area and I'm fairly certain The Weather Channel likely uses NWS observations.
cleetussnow
I've moved up from enhanced flurry to light now here mid Westchester. Sometimes it kicks up to moderate. Snow growth seems to have improved. It's pretty to look at.

Volcanic Winter
Snowing heavy, fat, low ratio stuff down here by me right now. Air temp cooled to 33/34 from 37 prior to onset. Nothing really sticking yet but it probably will if it keeps up. Pretty at least. Gratz everyone up north! Enjoy!

RU848789
Just woke up from a decent nap and it's been snowing light to almost moderate and just trying to accumulate a little and then I was rooting around on the interwebz and a few minutes later, without having looked back outside, I checked the radar and basically said, OMG that should be close to heavy snow and looked up and it was, lol - almost a dusting! Down to 34F.
donsutherland1
Borderline moderate snow in the Bronx. Strong winds are whipping the large flakes about. The day has the "look" of winter, but there is no accumulation.
