Hey Phil. I posted a little while ago. I already had 1.5 inches and that was a while ago. It is really coming down now. Smoky Park and Patton were getting white. Leicester white from George's Deli on. I would venture to say most roads will be snow covered very soon. Be careful if you decide to make the trip.

Thanks for the update. At this point, the very earliest that I'd be able to leave is 12pm, and that isn't even very likely... My guess is that by then conditions will not be very good and anything later than that might just be impassable. I'm thinking more against going than going. The problem is I'm suppose to be heading up tomorrow for balloon launches for the potential NWFS event, so I thought by going early I might be able to beat the bad road conditions. If I'm not going up this afternoon, it looks like I will have to drive up Sunday Morning, and I have no idea if roads crews can get the roads clean by then... likely not.

Still just cloudy here... precip is knocking on our door step, but oconee is not getting anything, so it still seems like its several hours out :(

Temp: 40.5 degrees

Phil, Closing in on 3 inches Up towards Weaverville. Went to Walgreens on Merrimon & Oterri. Less snow as you get closer to town. If you have some sort of multi wheel drive you should be ok. If not your window is closin rapidly!

2.5 inches now. An inch in less than an hour.

From the Aville Citizen Times:

Snow started falling in downtown Asheville around 8 a.m. and is now covering roads all over Western North Carolina.Mulitple accidents are being reported on roads this morning, including multiple wrecks on I-40 and I-26.

In Buncombe County most roads, including interstates and primary roads, are covered in snow and ice. The N.C. Department of Transportation started plowing interstates and primary roads around 9:30 a.m.

Thanks for all the updates guys.... its looking like a no-go for me unfortunately. I do have a 4 wheel drive I can take up, but if the roads are getting this bad this quickly, I stand no chance trying to venture out in the afternoon. I might as well enjoy the snow that will fall here in Greenville this afternoon.
