Despite my desire to see a lot of snow up in Asheville, NC... I think I made the right call to stay at home. A special thanks to ncjoaquin and AshevileDon for their timely observations this morning thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Wish you were up here with us but I agree you made the right call. We are around 5 inches now and the roads look pretty bad. Don't know if this has been posted as I have been on & off the Computer due to the holiday.

NWS-GSP SWS

...DANGEROUS WINTER STORM IMPACTING THE WESTERN CAROLINAS AND

NORTHEAST GEORGIA...

HEAVY SNOW CONTINUED TO FALL ACROSS THE WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA

MOUNTAINS EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. THE AXIS OF THE HEAVY SNOW

STRETCHED ROUGHLY FROM NEAR FRANKLIN...NORTHEAST THROUGH ASHEVILLE

THROUGH HICKORY. SNOWFALL RATES WERE AROUND 1 INCH AN HOUR IN THIS

BAND. REPORTS INDICATE THAT ROADS HAVE BECOME SNOW COVERED MAKING

FOR VERY HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS AND IN

PARTICULAR INTERSTATE 40 WEST OF STATESVILLE. REPORTS INDICATE

THAT ONLY FOUR WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES AND THOSE WITH CHAINS COULD

MAKE HEADWAY ON MANY OF THE MOUNTAIN ROADS.ELSEWHERE ACROSS UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA ...NORTHEAST

GEORGIA AND THE NORTH CAROLINA PIEDMONT...YOU SHOULD EXPECT

CONDITIONS TO RAPIDLY DETERIORATE BY LATE THIS AFTERNOON AS

INITIALLY SOME LIGHT RAIN WILL QUICKLY TURN TO SNOW. THE SNOW WILL

BECOME MODERATE TO HEAVY BY EVENING WITH SNOW QUICKLY ACCUMULATING.

SEVERAL INCHES.

TRAVEL THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS WILL BE DIFFICULT IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE

TODAY AND TONIGHT. OUTSIDE THE MOUNTAINS...HIGHWAYS ARE EXPECTED

TO BECOME SNOW COVERED AND AND SLIPPERY BY EVENING. PLEASE

CONSIDER THIS INFORMATION IF YOU PLAN TO TRAVEL THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

oh no, have you changed over at all? its been snowing here, but 32.6 and just a little slush. we just cant seem to break the freezing mark

I'm still stuck at 32.6 but I've managed to accumulate about an inch here in Dahlonega. Still coming down moderate to almost heavy. Darn temps.....

Plus the radar currently looks the worst for me as it has all day but it's snowing the hardest it has all day.

I got nothing but rain here and the radar is falling apart.

I hope I am completely wrong.. but this is not what I was expecting.

Areas in Northern Greenville County are mainly snow... its obvious because most of the mobs are around 33 degrees. Basically as long as you have decent precipitation, folks in upstate SC should easily go over to snow.

We are still high and dry here, but activity should be picking up in the next hour. Temperature: 41.4 degrees.
