with the radar upstream... the WNC mountains really lucked out with this setup... right now you can see how the radar is splitting into two bands with an area of lighter snow in between. This first band has been affecting WNC most of the morning, dropping 2-5" of snow. Now this band is starting to shift southward. A secondary band is now becoming better defined to the north and west of this first band, located over Chattanooga, TN. Now the question is, will these bands continue to separate, or will we see the area of light precipitation start to fill back in. Its a delicate situation, as it appears that the upstate is now going to get in on the action from the first band for the next 1-3 hours. My hunch is that the two bands will merge again over WNC as the system continues to amplify. Basically... my forecast is basically on track, except areas in WNC should really all be in the pink, with widespread 6-12" amounts expected.

Dude, chill out! As soon as we get some heavier returns over our way everybody in the upstate will switch over to snow. And by the looks of the RUC we will get absolutely hammered this evening.

You'll appreciate this cause you know where this is but the first band that was rain here in most of Oconee, the snow line started right at Stumphouse Tunnel and up, they picked up a bonus 2" right up the road. Cars coming through town in Walhalla had at least 2" on their hoods!

Folks in Upstate, SC... we aren't going to get the amounts that WNC is currently expecting.... this was already known from earlier this morning when we saw how the RUC was looking. However, starting around 3-4 pm, and going up until midnight... the main band that has been affecting WNC will move over us, and we can expect rain to quickly go over to snow as precip rates increase... approaching .5-1.0" snowfall rates per hour.

The RUC is a thing of beauty.

Essentially the 1-3" or 2-5" amounts on my map for Upstate, SC are still looking good.

I believe you Phil and Robert...just the suspense and seeing light rain for a while now has me worried. Sharp cutoff up the road in temps above i suppose should come crashing down this way soon.

Nice steady snow in Colfax. Temp started this morning @ 31. Shot up to 39.5 and the snow started around 10:45 or so. We have struggle to get down to 36.5 and have around 1/2". We are definitely losing some of our accumulation to melting. Nothing on the roads, water running down the gutter, and you can see a few places in the yard where there's some dirt showing due to heat. I'm guessing we don't see the temp drop a whole lot until the coastal gets going. Hopefully there will be plenty of precip left to fall.

Ok, my children (25 and 22) are planning to leave Salisbury in an hour to go skiing with their father in Banner Elk. I think that's a dreadful idea at this point. Anyone want to back me up so I can show it to them?

Not a very wise thing to do... the roads are awful up here, and it's getting worse. Wait until Monday when the sun comes out. I'm just saying.......
