Collegestudent11
I always wondered how weather models were created. Can anyone explain the process behind it?

WxTurtle
Depends on what you want to know-- if you want to look into the coding, how the physical computations are handled (how calculations are divvied among processors, etc.), how the numerics are dealt with (the methods used to solve the equations of motion-- dependent on grid), physical parameterizations, whatever-- there's no better place than the published model documentation itself. It's tough to slough through, but it's as deep as you can possibly get. However, if you really want to understand the bare theory behind NWP, you should really pick up a book about Lewis Fry Richardson. Really, every met or hobbyist should. You'll not only understand the underlying basics of the numerical methods used to forecast a fluid system, but you'll gain an immense historical perspective on the field that you almost certainly didn't have before.
